Identifying COVID-19 patients' clinical phenotypes based on characteristics and comorbidities, as well as their differences, helps in terms of clinical care and potential crises. Our goal is to use Latent Class Analysis (LCA) to identify COVID-19 patient profiles based on demographics, symptoms, and comorbidities, and evaluate their correlation with ICU admission, hospitalization duration, and mortality in a cross-sectional study. We included hospitalized patients with positive SARS-CoV-2 tests in two referral hospitals in the south of Iran between January 2020 and July 2021.

Article Synopsis
  • Military personnel in Iran face specific oral health challenges, with a study analyzing the oral health status and caries experience of 658 male soldiers using structured surveys and clinical exams.
  • The results showed a mean DMFT score of 3.57 and an OHIS score of 0.56, indicating a relationship between socioeconomic factors, health behaviors (like diet and dental visits), and oral health outcomes.
  • The study concludes that addressing modifiable risk factors, like dental hygiene practices and access to care, is critical for improving oral health among soldiers.

Introduction: Primary health care (PHC) is the most common model for providing primary care, and PHC services are the most common points of care that immigrants and refugees attend as a first step. Most immigrants travel to low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), yet only a few studies have examined their health conditions and their access to PHC in these countries. We have attempted to identify the barriers and facilitators that immigrants and refugees encounter when using PHC in these countries.

Background: Breast cancer is considered one of the leading causes of mortality in the world. Cancer incidence and consequently, drug consumption can strongly influence gene expressions at the transcriptome level. Therefore, the assessment of the candidate biomarkers' gene expression can accelerate the diagnosis process and increase the chance of treatment and remission.

Aim: In this multicenter study, we investigated all causes of mortality in hospitalized inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients.

Background: The widespread use of biologics and immune suppressive treatments, along with the longer lifespan of patients with IBD, may have changed the cause of death in this population. Knowing this may lead to better preventive and therapeutic strategies for IBD patients.

Background: The regulation of the circadian clock genes, which coordinate the activity of the immune system, is disturbed in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Emerging evidence suggests that butyrate, a short-chain fatty acid produced by the gut microbiota is involved in the regulation of inflammatory responses as well as circadian-clock genes. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of sodium-butyrate supplementation on the expression of circadian-clock genes, inflammation, sleep and life quality in active ulcerative colitis (UC) patients.

Background: Numerous studies on the association between the human development index (HDI) and road traffic death rate (RTDR) merely focus on developed countries, not reflecting the relationship between the HDI components and RTDR in a time-trend analysis. Accordingly, this study analyzes the trends of RTDR and their association with the HDI and its components from 2000 to 2019.

Methods: The RTDR data of 154 countries were imported into the unconditional latent growth model (LGM) to assess the RTDR trends.
