Characteristics of MR Imaging for Staging and Survival Analysis of Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Endometrium: A Multicenter Study in Japan.

Purpose: This study aimed to examine MRI features and staging of neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) of the endometrium and evaluate survival.

Methods: Clinical data, pathological, and preoperative pelvic MRI findings in 22 patients with histologically surgery-proven endometrial NEC were retrospectively reviewed. Tumors were pure NEC (n = 10) or mixed histotype (n = 12), with 13 large and nine small cell type.

Diagnostic Accuracy and Interobserver Agreement for the Vesical Imaging-Reporting and Data System for Muscle-invasive Bladder Cancer: A Multireader Validation Study.

A Vesical Imaging-Reporting and Data System (VI-RADS) based on multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mp-MRI) was developed to provide accurate information for the diagnosis of muscle-invasive bladder cancers (MIBCs). In this study we evaluated the interobserver agreement and diagnostic performance of VI-RADS. We retrospectively evaluated data for 74 consecutive patients with bladder cancer who had undergone mp-MRI before transurethral resection in a single institution from January 2010 to August 2018.

Multiparametric MRI for differentiation of borderline ovarian tumors from stage I malignant epithelial ovarian tumors using multivariate logistic regression analysis.

Objective: To assess the value of contrast-enhanced MRI, apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) measurement, and CA-125 measurement for differentiating borderline ovarian tumors (BOTs) from stage I malignant epithelial ovarian tumors (MEOTs).

Material And Methods: This retrospective study included 43 patients with BOTs and 43 patients with stage I MEOTs who underwent contrast-enhanced MRI with DWI and CA-125 analysis. Two radiologists evaluated the MRI findings in consensus.

A predictive diagnostic model using multiparametric MRI for differentiating uterine carcinosarcoma from carcinoma of the uterine corpus.

Purpose: To construct a diagnostic model for differentiating carcinosarcoma from carcinoma of the uterus.

Materials And Methods: Twenty-six patients with carcinosarcomas and 26 with uterine corpus carcinomas constituted a derivation cohort. The following nine MRI features of the tumors were evaluated: inhomogeneity, predominant signal intensity, presence of hyper- and hypointense areas, conspicuity of tumor margin, cervical canal extension on T2WI, presence of hyperintense areas on T1WI, contrast defect area volume percentage, and degree of enhancement.

Segmental multicystic dysplastic kidney in an adult: usefulness of enhanced CT in excretory phase.

We present an adult case of segmental multicystic dysplastic kidney (SMCDK). The patient had a 10 × 6 cm oval-shaped mass consisting of a solid and multilocular cystic component at the right upper renal sinus. The solid component showed gradual and mild enhancement on dual-phase enhanced CT.

A detailed paleomagnetic study conducted in the Sangiran area, Java, has provided a reliable age constraint on hominid fossil-bearing formations. A reverse-to-normal polarity transition marks a 7-m thick section across the Upper Tuff in the Bapang Formation. The transition has three short reversal episodes and is overlain by a thick normal polarity magnetozone that was fission-track dated to the Brunhes chron.

[Peroral direct cholangioscopy for diagnosis and treatment].

Peroral direct cholangioscopy (PDCS) is endoscopic method for diagnosis in the common bile duct (CBD) utilizing an ultra-slim upper endoscope. Clinical utility and problem of this method were investigated in ten patients who had stenosis or obstruction in the CBD with stones or a tumor. Scope shaft had to become the form of a U loop by counterclockwise rotation, to advance the scope in the direction of intrahepatic bile duct.

[Physical characteristics of anti-scatter grids according to old and new JIS standards].

JIS Z 4910 (anti-scatter grids) of the JIS standards was revised in 2000. Major points of revision were the provision of general-purpose and mammographic anti-scatter grids and changes in the diameter of the measuring field and difference in the manufacturing allowance. We measured the physical characteristics (grid selectivity, contrast improvement ratio, and grid exposure factor) of [general-purpose anti-scatter grids] referring to the methods of measurement [JIS Z 4910:2000] and [JIS Z 4910:1983] using an inverter-type high-voltage generator.

Sexually dimorphic basal water absorption at the isolated pelvic patch of Japanese tree frog, Hyla japonica.

Frogs ingest little water orally, but absorb the majority of the water needed for normal physiological performance through a specific region of the ventral skin, the pelvic patch. We observed non-stimulated (basal water absorption, BWA) water flux through the isolated pelvic patch in vitro in Japanese tree frog (Hyla japonica). We found that water flux through non-stimulated skin from the pelvic patch was greater in males than females.

Molecular cloning of an anuran V(2) type [Arg(8)] vasotocin receptor and mesotocin receptor: functional characterization and tissue expression in the Japanese tree frog (Hyla japonica).

In most amphibians, [Arg(8)] vasotocin (VT) has an antidiuretic effect that is coupled to the activation of adenylate cyclase. In contrast, mesotocin (MT) has a diuretic effect and acts via the inositol phosphate/calcium signaling pathway in amphibians. To further clarify the mechanisms of VT and MT activation, we report the molecular cloning of a VT receptor (VTR) and a MT receptor (MTR) from the Japanese tree frog, Hyla japonica.

[Refractory idiopathic cold agglutinin disease successfully treated with intermittent high-dose cyclophosphamide].

A 56-year-old woman, who had been suffering from idiopathic cold agglutinin disease and treated unsuccessfully with prednisolone and cyclosporine A for 6 months, was referred to our hospital in November 1998. She was given methylprednisolone pulse therapy followed by low-dose cyclophosphamide, but her anemia did not improve. We then began administration of intermittent high-dose cyclophosphamide (1,200 mg/day, every 4 weeks), and this resulted in a dramatic increase of her hemoglobin level and improvement of her symptoms.

[Occurrence of angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma six months after onset of Lyme disease].

Indication of endoscopic treatment is amazingly expanding because of developing new techniques and easy-to-use devices. Nowadays, the indication for endoscopic treatment includes the removal of foreign bodies in alimentary tract, the dilatation of stricture lesions by balloon or expandable metallic stent, the resection of polypoid and superficial tumors by polypectomy and EMR (endoscopic mucosal resection) techniques, the injection sclerotherapy and ligation method for gastroesophageal varices, the hemostasis of gastrointestinal hemorrhages by injection method or heat-burn method.

Angiotensin II suppresses water absorption through the ventral skin of Japanese tree-frogs in vitro.

We previously described two different water absorption systems in the ventral skin of the Japanese tree-frog, Hyla arborea japonica: i.e., a rapid enhanced flow, which is observed in dehydrated tree-frogs or those stimulated by adrenaline beta-agonists or vasotocin, and a slow basal flow, which is observed in normally hydrated frogs during the non-breeding season.

Peripheral factors contributing to the volitional control of firing rates of the human motor units.

Human subjects can volitionally control discharge frequencies of isolated motor units at several frequencies. If the tonic firing rates such as 10 Hz are mainly dependent on the gamma-loop and if Xylocaine blocks gamma-fibers before blocking alpha-fibers, application of Xylocaine would preferentially disturb the tonic rates. After application of Xylocaine to the nerve innervating the motor units the tonic discharges at 10 Hz became irregular, while the phasic discharges at 1 Hz could still be performed volitionally.

DEVELOPMENT OF VAGINAL EPITHELIUM SHOWING IRREVERSIBLE PROLIFERATION AND CORNIFICATION IN NEONATALLY ESTROGENIZED MICE: AN ELECTRON MICROSCOPE STUDY.
