Adult mammalian synovial joints have limited regenerative capacity, where injuries heal with mechanically inferior fibrotic tissues. Here we developed a unilateral whole-joint resection model in adult zebrafish to advance our understanding of how to stimulate regrowth of native synovial joint tissues. Using a combination of microCT, histological, live imaging, and single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNAseq) approaches after complete removal of all joint tissues, we find de novo regeneration of articular cartilage, ligament, and synovium into a functional joint.

Estrogen (E2) deficiency is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD), however, the exact mechanism for the E2 protective effect on CVD remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the estrogen receptor (ER) and non-receptor mediated effects of E2 treatment on the cardiac expression of adenosine monophosphate-dependent protein kinase (AMPK), autophagic, mitophagy and mitochondrial homeostasis-regulating genes in ovariectomized (OVX) rats. Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) includes two interrelated conditions, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). Risk factors include dehydration, prolonged immobilization, acute medical illness, trauma, clotting disorders, previous thrombosis, varicose veins with superficial vein thrombosis, exogenous hormones, malignancy, chemotherapy, infection, inflammation, pregnancy, obesity, smoking, and advancing age. It is estimated that hospitalized patients are 100 times more likely to develop VTE and, compared with surgical patients, medical patients often have more severe forms of VTE.

In this study, we deployed green extract (MOE) as a corrosion inhibitor for copper. Two new sesquiterpenes; 8α,11-dihydroxy-β-cyperon (2), and 5-epi-7α-hydroxy-( +)-oplopanone (3), were isolated from the soft coral Litophyton arboreum, together with nine known ones, including five sesquiterpenes; 11-hydroxy-8-oxo-β-cyperon (1), alismoxide (4), 5β,8β-epidioxy-11-hydroxy-6-eudesmene (5), chabrolidione B (6), 7-oxo-tri-nor-eudesm-5-en-4β-ol (7), two sterols; 7β-acetoxy-24-methyl-cholesta-5,24(28)-diene-3β,19-diol (8), nebrosteroid M (9), and two glycerol derivatives; chimyl alcohol (10) and batyl alcohol (11). The structures of the isolated compounds were characterized using spectroscopic techniques, predominately HR-ESI-MS, 1D, 2D-NMR, and ECD analyses. Compounds 1-11 were evaluated for their cytotoxic activity against three human cancer-cell lines (A549, MCF-7 and HepG2), and anti-leishmanial potential against the causal parasite, Leishmania major.

Background: The passive fit of 3-unit implant supported prefabricated metal screw-retained prosthesis before implant placement might be difficult.
