Cherubism is a rare congenital disease resulting in malformation of the jaw. It occurs before the age of 5 years and regress spontaneously after puberty. It can result into enlargement of the jaw bone, tooth displacement, facial disfigurement and psychological trauma to patient.

Background: The present study was done to evaluate the dimensional stability and surface quality of Type IV gypsum casts retrieved from disinfected elastomeric impression materials.

Materials And Methods: In an in vitro study contaminated impression material with known bacterial species was disinfected with disinfectants followed by culturing the swab sample to assess reduction in level of bacterial colony. Changes in surface detail reproduction of impression were assessed fallowing disinfection.

Background: When ceramic brackets were introduced as an esthetic alternative to the stainless steel brackets, it was a step ahead in the use of esthetic appliances for orthodontic treatment. Although ceramic brackets had overcome the drawbacks of the initial polycarbonate brackets such as staining and bracket slot distortion, they posed an altogether different problem. Many methods have been used to isolate genomic DNA, but some of them are time-consuming and costly, especially when extracting a large number of samples. Here we described an easy protocol using two simple solutions for DNA extraction from A. tumefaciens cells.

Highly Efficient Povidone-Phosphotungstic Acid Catalyst for the Tandem Acetalization of Aldehydes to Bis- and Tris(indolyl)methanes.

A novel, nonleachable hybrid of heteropoly acid and polyvinylpyrrolidone (or povidone) catalyzes the acetalization of aldehydes in methanol at room temperature followed by reaction with indole to give bis(indolyl)methanes (BIMs) and tris(indolyl)methanes (TIMs) in quantitative yields (90-97 %). The catalyst was shown by pyridine FTIR spectroscopy to possess Brønsted acidity, and the hybrid formation was confirmed by XRD and P NMR studies. Friedel-Crafts alkylation of indole as well as the tandem synthesis of BIMs and TIMs were established with several types of carbonyl and indole substrates to give the corresponding products quantitatively.

Discrete molecular classes of ovarian cancer suggestive of unique mechanisms of transformation and metastases.

Purpose: Tumor heterogeneity and subsistence of high-grade serous ovarian adenocarcinoma (HGSC) classes can be speculated from clinical incidences suggesting passive tumor dissemination versus active invasion and metastases.

Experimental Design: We explored this theme toward tumor classification through two approaches of gene expression pattern clustering: (i) derivation of a core set of metastases-associated genes and (ii) resolution of independent weighted correlation networks. Further identification of appropriate cell and xenograft models was carried out for resolution of class-specific biologic functions.

A growing body of research has shown that Western vegetarians report more concern for animal welfare and environmental sustainability, and endorse more liberal values than do Western omnivores. However, despite the prevalence of Indian vegetarianism, its psychological associations and underpinnings remain largely unexamined. In Study 1, we find that Euro-American vegetarians are more concerned than omnivores with the impact of their daily food choices on the environment and animal welfare, show more concern for general animal welfare, and endorse universalistic values more, yet among Indian participants, these differences are not significant.

Immunotherapy of CD30-expressing lymphoma using a highly stable ssDNA aptamer.

CD30 is highly expressed on Hodgkins lymphoma and anaplastic large cell lymphoma, making it an attractive target for therapy. We describe the generation of serum-stabilized ssDNA aptamers that bind CD30 via a hybrid SELEX methodology. The selected aptamer bound CD30 with high affinity and specificity.

To belong is to matter: sense of belonging enhances meaning in life.

In four methodologically diverse studies (N = 644), we found correlational (Study 1), longitudinal (Study 2), and experimental (Studies 3 and 4) evidence that a sense of belonging predicts how meaningful life is perceived to be. In Study 1 (n = 126), we found a strong positive correlation between sense of belonging and meaningfulness. In Study 2 (n = 248), we found that initial levels of sense of belonging predicted perceived meaningfulness of life, obtained 3 weeks later.

Sturge-Weber syndrome is a rare nonhereditary developmental condition with neurological and skin disorder, characterized by presence of port wine stain on the face along with ocular disorders, oral manifestations and leptomeningeal angiomas. Here we present an unusual case of Sturge-Weber syndrome with osseous hypertrophy of maxilla.

Oleanolic acid prevents progression of streptozotocin induced diabetic nephropathy and protects renal microstructures in Sprague Dawley rats.

Objective: To study the effect of oleanolic acid (OA) on streptozotocin induced diabetic nephropathy in Sprague Dawley rats.

Materials And Methods: Four weeks after intra-peritoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ; 55 mg/kg), the rats with proteinuria were grouped as: Control (non-diabetic, treated orally with vehicle), diabetic control (treated orally with vehicle) and three diabetic groups receiving 20, 40 and 60 mg/kg/day oral doses of OA. At the end of 8 weeks, urine and serum samples from the rats were processed for determination of creatinine, BUN and GFR.

The acceptability among young Hindus and Muslims of actively ending the lives of newborns with genetic defects.

Aim: To explore the views in non-Western cultures about ending the lives of damaged newborns.

Method: 254 university students from India and 150 from Kuwait rated the acceptability of ending the lives of newborns with genetic defects in 54 vignettes consisting of all combinations of four factors: gestational age (term or 7 months); severity of genetic defect (trisomy 21 alone, trisomy 21 with serious morphological abnormalities or trisomy 13 with impending death); the parents' attitude about prolonging care (unknown, in favour or opposed); and the procedure used (withholding treatment, withdrawing it or injecting a lethal substance).

Results: Four clusters were identified by cluster analysis and subjected to analysis of variance.

Objective: 1) To compare the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA's) Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) and European Medicines Agency's (EMA's) Risk Management Plan (RMP) guidances and 2) to compare REMS and RMPs for specific chemical entities and biological products.

Methods: FDA, EMA, and pharmaceutical company Web sites were consulted for details pertaining to REMS and RMPs. REMS requirements include medication guides, communication plans, elements to ensure safe use, implementation systems, and specified assessment intervals.

Patient time costs associated with sensor-augmented insulin pump therapy for type 1 diabetes: results from the STAR 3 randomized trial.

Background: Sensor-augmented pump therapy (SAPT) leads to lower glycated hemoglobin levels than multiple daily injections of insulin (MDI) in patients with type 1 diabetes. Patient time and costs associated with SAPT are not known.

Objective: We compared time spent on diabetes-related care, changes in time, and associated patient time costs between patients randomly assigned to SAPT or MDI.

The role of revenge, denial, and terrorism distress in restoring just world beliefs: the impact of the 2008 Mumbai attacks on British and Indian students.

Just world beliefs for students (N = 413) from India and the United Kingdom were measured. The participants then read a scenario about the 2008 terrorist attacks on Mumbai. The participants were then assessed for terrorism distress and offered multiple strategies (revenge and denial) to restore their just world beliefs.

Alumina supported carbon composite material with exceptionally high defluoridation property from eggshell waste.

A new alumina supported carbon composite material called "Eggshell Composite" (EC) was synthesized from eggshell waste as calcium source for selective fluoride adsorption from water. The effect of various synthesis parameters like eggshell (ES): Eggshell membrane (ESM) ratio, aluminium loading, mixing time and calcinations temperature to optimize the synthesis conditions for selective fluoride removal has been studied. It was observed that the synthesis parameters have significant influence on development of EC and in turn on fluoride removal capacity.

Effect of biologically synthesised silver nanoparticles on Staphylococcus aureus biofilm quenching and prevention of biofilm formation.

The development of green experimental processes for the synthesis of nanoparticles is a need in the field of nanotechnology. In the present study, the authors reported rapid synthesis of silver nanoparticles using fresh leaves extract of Cymbopogan citratus (lemongrass) with increased stability. The synthesised silver nanoparticles were found to be stable for several months.

Cost-effectiveness of sensor-augmented pump therapy in adults with type 1 diabetes in the United States.

Objectives: A recent randomized trial demonstrated significant reductions in hemoglobin A(1c) levels with sensor-augmented pump therapy (SAPT) compared with multiple daily injections of insulin (MDI) in type 1 diabetes. We analyzed resource use in the trial and estimated the long-term cost-effectiveness of SAPT from the perspective of the US health care system.

Methods: We undertook a cost-effectiveness analysis combining estimates from the trial and the literature to populate the previously validated Center for Outcomes Research (CORE) Diabetes Model.

Delphinium L. is a genus of more than 300 species of perennial flowering plants belonging to the family Ranunculaceae and is native throughout the Northern Hemisphere. In India, 24 species are found mainly in the Himalayan regions.

Belief in a just world, teacher justice, and bullying behavior.

The relation between school students' belief in a just world (BJW) and their bullying behavior was investigated in a questionnaire study. The mediating role of teacher justice was also examined. Data were obtained from a total of N = 458 German and Indian high school students.
