The selective deprotection of substituted aryl esters like acetates and propionates in the presence of different electron-donating and -withdrawing functional groups to the corresponding phenols in good yields was reported using the Lewis acid supported solid acid catalyst 20 InCl/MCM-41 prepared by the wet impregnation method. The textural and microscopic properties of the catalyst were studied, which revealed a high degree of dispersion of InCl over MCM-41, promising quantification of Lewis acidity, and well-ordered honeycomb structure. The methodology was further explored for the selective deprotection of acetates and propionates in the presence of substituted amides that remain unaltered.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on detecting multijet signatures from proton-proton collisions at a high energy of 13 TeV, analyzing a dataset totaling 128 fb^{-1}.
  • A special data scouting method is utilized to pick out events with low combined momentum in jets.
  • This research is pioneering in its investigation of electroweak particle production in R-parity violating supersymmetric models, particularly examining hadronically decaying mass-degenerate higgsinos, and it broadens the limits on the existence of R-parity violating top squarks and gluinos.

The bourgeoning field of wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) for the surveillance of several respiratory viruses which includes Influenza A, H1N1pdm09, H3N2, respiratory syncytial viruses (RSV), and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is of interest for public health concerns. However, there are few long-term monitoring studies globally. In this study, respiratory viruses were detected and quantified from 11 sewer sheds by utilizing reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction analysis in Pune city, India, from Jan 2022 to Dec 2023.

The first search for soft unclustered energy patterns (SUEPs) is performed using an integrated luminosity of 138  fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13  TeV, collected in 2016-2018 by the CMS detector at the LHC. Such SUEPs are predicted by hidden valley models with a new, confining force with a large 't Hooft coupling. In events with boosted topologies, selected by high-threshold hadronic triggers, the multiplicity and sphericity of clustered tracks are used to reject the background from standard model quantum chromodynamics.

Nanocomposites of 20% and 30% Co-doped Ni/NiO were synthesized using a microwave-assisted sol-gel auto-combustion method. The 30% Co-doped Ni/NiO nanocomposite exhibited negative magnetoresistance (M-R) at various temperatures, including 2 K, 10 K, 80 K, 100 K, and 250 K. This behavior is interpreted as indicative of a Kondo-like scattering effect.

In this study, we investigate, for the first time, the abundance, distribution, chemical composition, and exposure of microplastics (MPs) in Indian rice and their impact on human health. The physical and chemical characteristics of MPs were measured using a stereomicroscope, μ-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and μ-Raman spectroscopy. MPs were identified in all samples, with an average abundance of 30.

The first search for the Z boson decay to ττμμ at the CERN LHC is presented, based on data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138  fb^{-1}. The data are compatible with the predicted background. For the first time, an upper limit at the 95% confidence level of 6.

The study reports on the magnetization, magnetoresistance, and transport properties of superparamagnetic 10% Co-doped Ni/NiO (C10-NN), Graphene Oxide (GO) incorporated 10% Co-doped Ni/NiO (C10-NNG), and 15% Co-doped Ni/NiO (C15-NN) nanoparticles synthesized via a microwave-assisted sol-gel auto-combustion method. All samples show hysteresis in negative Magnetoresistance (M-R) at different temperatures. Resistivity ρ(T) versus temperature plots of samples C10-NN and C15-NN show metallic behavior with applied fields of 0, 1, 5, 8 T, and at 0 T, 1 T respectively.

Background: This cross-sectional study compared the nutritional status of chronic periodontitis (CP) patients who presented with various degrees of severity with systemically healthy individuals using the Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) tool along with laboratory analysis of macro- and micronutrients.

Materials And Methods: This research enrolled a total of 84 participants, of which 63 belonged to the CP group while 21 served as healthy controls. The CP patients were divided into three groups of 21 each, based on severity as mild, moderate, and severe.

Article Synopsis
  • Tracking and monitoring SARS-CoV-2 variants has become complex due to reduced clinical testing, prompting a study of wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) in Pune, India, to enhance variant surveillance.
  • Over 1,100 wastewater samples were analyzed, revealing "silent waves" of high viral load that occurred before clinical cases, indicating possible hidden transmission and allowing early detection of variants like XBB up to 253 days before they appeared in clinical data.
  • The study demonstrated that WBE captures a wider variety of circulating variants, providing valuable insights for public health officials to better manage and respond to potential future COVID-19 waves amidst decreasing clinical testing.

Most people practice a religion, often multiple times daily. Among the most visible aspects of these practices are body postures, which according to embodiment theories, likely shape the psychological experience of religion. In a preregistered study, we test this idea among Christians, Muslims, and Hindus in the United States, Turkey, and India (N = 2,458).

  • KEYNOTE-394 trial found that pembrolizumab significantly improved survival rates and quality of life for Asian patients with advanced liver cancer compared to a placebo.
  • Health-related quality of life was assessed using two questionnaires, revealing that patients on pembrolizumab experienced less decline in their quality of life scores versus those on placebo at 12 weeks.
  • The study concludes that pembrolizumab offers a meaningful benefit with acceptable safety for patients in need of second-line treatment for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma.

A theoretical perspective on grandiose narcissism suggests four forms of it (sanctity, admiration, heroism, rivalry) and states that these forms conduce to different ways of thinking and acting. Guided by this perspective, we examined in a multinational and multicultural study (61 countries; N = 15,039) how narcissism forms are linked to cognitions and behaviors prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic. As expected, differences in cognitions and behaviors across narcissism forms emerged.

Recent literature reports highlight the importance of the renal outer medullary potassium (ROMK) channel in renal sodium and potassium homeostasis and emphasize the potential impact that ROMK inhibitors could have as a novel mechanism diuretic in heart failure patients. A series of piperazine-based ROMK inhibitors were designed and optimized to achieve excellent ROMK potency, hERG selectivity, and ADME properties, which led to the identification of compound (BMS-986308). BMS-986308 demonstrated efficacy in the volume-loaded rat diuresis model as well as promising in vitro and in vivo profiles and was therefore advanced to clinical development.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most prevalent type of dementia caused by the accumulation of amyloid beta (Aβ) peptides. The extracellular deposition of Aβ peptides in human AD brain causes neuronal death. Therefore, it has been found that Aβ peptide degradation is a possible therapeutic target for AD.

Kratom and cannabidiol products are used to self-treat a variety of conditions, including anxiety and pain, and to elevate mood. Research into the individual pharmacokinetic properties of commercially available kratom and cannabidiol products has been performed, but there are no studies on coadministration of these products. Surveys of individuals with kratom use history indicate that cannabidiol use is one of the strongest predictors of both lifetime and past month kratom use.
