Laptop and tablet use and their influence on total motile sperm count parameters: are laptops linked to infertility in Jamaican men?

Background: This study aims to determine the impact of laptop and tablet use on total motile sperm count (TMSC) in men being investigated for assisted reproduction.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 156 men attending a fertility clinic in Jamaica. Routine semen analyses were performed and parameters specific to TMSC assessed.

Is gravidity associated with COVID-19 vaccination among pregnant women in Jamaica?

Introduction: In 2021, Jamaica's maternal mortality ratio doubled as a result of COVID-19-related deaths. Yet, COVID-19 vaccination among pregnant Jamaican women remained low. In the United States, COVID-19 vaccination is lower among pregnant women who have had multiple pregnancies (multigravidas) versus women who were pregnant for the first time (primigravidas).

Pregnant people with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have a higher risk of adverse maternal and fetal outcomes compared with pregnant people without COVID-19. In 2021, large increases in maternal mortality were reported in Jamaica, almost half of which were attributable to COVID-19. COVID-19 vaccination has been shown to reduce these risks, but low- and middle-income countries lack free, publicly available data, known as open data, on COVID-19 vaccine uptake for their pregnant populations.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional, web-based survey of 192 reproductive-aged women in Jamaica from February 1 to 8, 2022. Participants were recruited from a convenience sample of patients, providers, and staff at a teaching hospital.

Living with the Threat of Covid-19: Exploring the Psychological Impact of Covid-19 in Those who Conceived Through ART Versus Spontaneously.

Objectives: To explore and compare anxiety relating to the threat of Covid-19 in pregnancy by women who conceived through assisted reproductive technology (ART) and spontaneously. We also examined the psychological coping strategies used and lived experience for both groups.

Methods: A total of 21 women who conceived through ART at a private university based IVF and a matched sample of women who conceived spontaneously were enrolled from July 2020 to February 2021.

Fertility care expectations: what do PLHIV and health care providers in Jamaica know about assisted reproduction services for safe conception?

Increased life expectancy among persons living with HIV (PLHIV) has increased the desire for parenthood. It is therefore important that PLHIV and health care providers (HCPs) are aware of the available assisted reproduction services (ARS) for PLHIV facing infertility or unsuppressed viremia. Through secondary data analysis we identified PLHIV who were actively trying to conceive and their knowledge of ARS.

The effects of wireless devices on male reproductive health: A literature overview.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to summarize the evidence of radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation (RF-EMR) exposure from wireless devices on total motile sperm count (TMSC) and identify gaps in the literature that could help clarify this link.

Materials And Methods: A literature search was conducted using PubMed/MEDLINE to find relevant studies examining the effects of EMR on male fertility, with a specific focus on TMSC, published from 2000 to 2019. R was used for data analyses.

Objectives: The study objective was to evaluate physicians' knowledge, attitude, and practices toward menopause and hormone therapy.

Methods: This study was a cross-sectional study using a stratified sample of physicians across the four health regions in Jamaica, between September and October 2017. A total of 145 physicians (75% response rate) completed a questionnaire to assess knowledge and attitudes toward menopause and prescribing hormonal therapy.

This study examines fertility desire and motives for having children among PLHIV in Jamaica and explores the association with depressive symptoms.: In a cross-sectional study, 251 PLHIV in their reproductive years voluntarily completed an interviewer-administered questionnaire.
