Introduction: Primary hyperoxaluria type 1 (PH1) is a genetic autosomal recessively inherited disorder due to mutation in the alanine-glyoxylate aminotransferase (AGXT) gene. It usually presents in children with nephrolithiasis and/or nephrocalcinosis and progressive renal function impairment and end stage renal disease (ESRD).

Patient Concerns: A 13 years old Saudi boy with history of recurrent urolithiasis since the age of 2 years presented to us with picture of ESRD.

Changing the morphology of one-dimensional titanate nanostructures affects its tissue distribution and toxicity.

The present research investigated the impact of the morphology change of titanate (TiO) nanostructures on its tissue distribution and toxicity. The TiO nanotubes, rods, and ribbons were synthesized by the hydrothermal technique, and the morphology was adjusted by alteration of the hydrothermal duration time. The characterization techniques were X-ray diffraction, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, and the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method for measuring the surface area.

Comparative Effectiveness of Endovascular Treatment for Acute Ischemic Stroke: A Population-Based Analysis.

Background A heterogeneous patient population receives endovascular treatment (EVT) for acute ischemic stroke caused by proximal large-vessel occlusion every day. We aimed to conduct a population-based study of EVT in the province of Alberta, Canada, to understand the effectiveness in a complete population and how the magnitude of effect differs from the artificial world of clinical trials. Methods and Results Within a 3-year period (April 2015 to March 2018), 576 patients fit the inclusion criteria of our study and constituted the EVT group of our analysis.

Perception and Barriers Regarding Infection Control Measures Among Healthcare Workers in Minia City, Egypt.

Background: This study aimed to assess perception of healthcare workers (HCWs) toward infection control measures and to identify the major barriers that may hinder the proper infection control practice and to compare perception of HCWs toward infection control measures between Minia University Hospital and Minia General Hospital. The study was a descriptive cross-sectional study.

Methods: The study conducted on 350 HCWs (187 from Minia University Hospital, 163 from Minia General Hospital); data were collected using a structured questionnaire.

This research aims to investigate the population genetics structure of two common species of mosquitoes in Penang; and using Cytochrome Oxidase I (COI) mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) marker. Molecular investigations were derived from 440 bp and 418 bp mtDNA COI on 125 and 334 larvae of and respectively, from 32 locations in Penang.

Drug recrystallization in drug-in-adhesive transdermal delivery system: A case study of deteriorating the mechanical and rheological characteristics of testosterone TDS.

This study investigated the effects of drug recrystallization on the in vitro performance of testosterone drug-in-adhesive transdermal delivery system (TDS). Six formulations were prepared with a range of dry drug loading in the adhesive matrix from 1% to 10% w/w with the aim of generating TDS with various levels of drug crystals. We visually quantified the amount of crystals in TDS by polarized light microscopy.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to describe patterns of Zika virus RNA testing of amniotic fluid relative to other clinical specimens and to examine the association between Zika virus detection in amniotic fluid and Zika-associated birth defects.

Assessing Drug Release from Manipulated Abuse Deterrent Formulations.

There is a need to develop in vitro dissolution methods that discriminate for particle size of the manipulated abuse deterrent formulation (ADF) and that can be used for in vivo predictive models since dissolution methods developed for intact formulation might not be suitable for manipulated ones. A vertical diffusion cell (VDC) and United States Pharmacopeia (USP) Apparatus 1, 2, and 4 were evaluated for measuring the dissolution of intact and manipulated metoprolol succinate tablets with abuse deterrent-like properties. These tablets were physically manipulated to produce fine (106-500 μm) and coarse (500-1000 μm) powder samples.

The influence of tone language experience and speech style on the use of intonation in language discrimination.

This work tests whether listeners' use of suprasegmental information in speech perception is modulated by language background and speech style. Native Mandarin (tone language) and Malay (non-tone language) listeners completed an AX language discrimination task with four levels of signal degradation and two speech styles. Listeners in both groups showed more benefit from pitch information in read than in spontaneous speech.

Biochemical, biological characteristics and antibacterial activity of glycoprotein extracted from the epidermal mucus of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus).

Catfish glycoprotein (CFG) was extracted from the cutaneous mucus of Egyptian catfish by ammonium sulphate precipitation and purified on gel filtration column (sephadex G-50). After purification, CFG produced one band on SDS-PAGE (22 kDa). Urea-PAGE and the pH-solubility of CFG indicated its positive charge (IEP 8).
