This research focuses on an Iranian industrial area with a long history of oil contamination where oil spills occurred over time. Multiple techniques were utilized to determine the contamination source, including chemical, hydrogeological, and geological methods. The results indicated that the main reason for the leak was the rupture of several underground oil pipelines.

This study aims to identify sources of groundwater contamination in a refinery area using integrated compound-specific stable isotope analysis (CSIA), oil fingerprinting techniques, hydrogeological data, and distillation analysis. The investigations focused on determination of the origin of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX), and aliphatic hydrocarbons as well. Groundwater and floating oil samples were collected from extraction wells for analysis.

In this work, gel electro-membrane extraction (G-EME) method is suggested for extraction and determination of propranolol and atenolol in complex biological samples. An in-house membrane based on agarose was used as green and biodegradable gel membrane. Essential chemical parameters that influence on extraction efficiency were tested, optimized and evaluated via a central composite design (CCD) and response surface methodology (RSM).

Introducing new sorbents is an interesting and debatable issue in the field of sample preparation. In this study, for the first time, a pH-sensitive magnetic nanoparticles microgel, Fe3O4-SiO2-oly(4-vinylpyridine), was introduced as a new sorbent. The operating mechanism of this sorbent is based on changing the pH value of the sample and consequently the structure of this pH-sensitive microgel is changed.
