Purpose: To assess the surgical outcomes of augmentation urethroplasty (AU) using penile skin graft (PSG) compared to buccal mucosa graft (BMG) in anterior urethral stricture disease.

Method: Between January 2018 and January 2019, 100 patients with anterior urethral stricture planned for AU were randomized into PSG or BMG arms (CTRI/2018/07/015028). Anatomic and functional variables were compared pre-operatively and post-operatively.

Article Synopsis
  • This study evaluates the effectiveness of mirabegron, a beta-3 agonist, in reducing stent-related symptoms compared to tamsulosin and solifenacin in patients who had ureteral stent placement after kidney stone procedures.
  • A total of 150 patients were randomly assigned to receive one of the three medications, and their progress was monitored using a questionnaire over several weeks.
  • Results showed that mirabegron had similar benefits in symptom relief, with better general health scores, suggesting it could be a viable alternative for patients who can't tolerate or have contraindications to the other medications.

Renal cell cancer (RCC) is incidentally detected on imaging in 50%-60% of cases. Among the RCCs, clear cell variant is most common and classically seen as heterogenous enhancing lesion on CT imaging. Hypoenhancing mass presents a diagnostic dilemma with differential diagnosis being urothelial carcinoma, fat poor angiomyolipoma, oncocytoma or rarer variants of RCC.

Article Synopsis
  • Large adrenal pheochromocytomas that wrap around the renal artery are uncommon and require surgical removal for treatment.
  • A case study involves a 41-year-old man with a left adrenal pheochromocytoma completely encasing his left renal artery and partially surrounding the aorta.
  • The surgical approach included open left adrenalectomy and nephrectomy after proper preoperative preparation, and the patient showed good recovery after six months.

Objective: To develop and validate a novel prediction model predicting renal function recovery following diversion in patients with obstructive uropathy (OU) to the emergency department (ED).

Methods: After a systematic literature search, a novel prediction model called PGIMER Obstructive Uropathy Score (POUS) was constructed including five variables: age (<60 or >60 years), duration of symptoms (<4 or >4 weeks), presence of solitary functioning kidney, baseline hemoglobin levels and venous blood pH. This model was then validated in a prospective, observational single-center study of patients presenting with OU caused by various etiologies.

Hydatid disease (HD) is an accidental human parasitic infestation by cestodes and is most commonly caused by Echinococcus granulosus. Liver happens to be the most common site of involvement, although involvement of other organ symptoms is not uncommon. Involvement of the retrovesical pouch by hydatidosis is generally secondary in nature with an incidence of 0.

Miniaturization of percutaneous nephrolithotomy (mPCNL) was proposed to decrease postoperative bleeding, as there is decreased parenchymal injury compared with standard percutaneous nephrolithotomy (SPCNL). Published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating bleeding after mPCNL have shown conflicting results. Hence, the evidence to say that mPCNL offers less postoperative bleeding is not robust.

Ectopic ureter is a rare but pertinent cause of incontinence in young women. We report a 12-year-old girl who presented with reports of incontinence since birth. She was evaluated and found to have complete duplication of the left ureter, with the upper moiety ureter opening into the vestibule of the vagina just below the external urethra meatus.

Objective: To share our experience and techniques of robot-assisted repair of complex vesicovaginal fistulae.

Methods: Prospectively maintained data of patients undergoing robot-assisted repair of complex vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) from December 2014 to October 2019 were analyzed. Patient characteristics, operative data, postoperative events, and follow-up outcomes were noted.

Introduction: Penile fracture is a rare urological emergency, best managed by early surgical intervention, but the data on subsequent sexual function is sparse. This study was designed to analyze the clinical spectrum and sexual function after penile fracture repair at our tertiary care center.

Materials And Methods: Ambispective observational study was undertaken from July 2002 to August 2019 which included patients admitted with a history of trauma to the penis in the erect state.

Objective: To highlight the feasibility and technical details of performing simultaneous ipsilateral pyeloplasty and ureteric re-implantation for simultaneous proximal and distal obstruction of the ureter.

Methods: Two patients with preoperative diagnosis of proximal and distal ureteric obstruction underwent robot-assisted simultaneous pyeloplasty and ureteric re-implantation. The patients were placed in right lateral oblique position and pyeloplasty was performed in standard manner.

Pheochromocytoma (PCC) may present as a cystic or solid tumour. Cystic PCCs are difficult to differentiate from simple cysts in the absence of classic symptoms of PCCs. Cystic nature develops due to intralesional bleeding and necrosis.

Article Synopsis
  • Stauffer's syndrome is a rare type of liver dysfunction that is typically seen in patients with clear cell kidney carcinoma, but has also been noted in a few other cancer types like prostate and lung tumors.
  • The syndrome is characterized by elevated liver enzymes and prolonged prothrombin time, but without jaundice in most cases; however, a rare form does involve jaundice, usually linked to clear cell kidney cancer.
  • This report highlights an unusual case of primary synovial sarcoma of the kidney that presented with nonmetastatic cholestatic jaundice, a situation not previously documented.
