Background: Left or codominant coronary arterial circulation may represent less well-balanced myocardial perfusion and thus confer worse prognosis in acute coronary syndrome, especially for culprit lesions arising from the left coronary artery.
Methods And Results: We related left and codominance, relative to right dominance, with in-hospital mortality in 207 926 percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) for acute coronary syndromes from July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010 in the National Cardiovascular Data Registry Cath Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (CathPCI) Registry database version 4. Generalized estimating equations and logistic regression analyses were used in unadjusted and multivariable adjusted models.
Objectives: The National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR) developed the Data Quality Program to meet the objectives of ensuring the completeness, consistency, and accuracy of data submitted to the observational clinical registries. The Data Quality Program consists of 3 main components: 1) a data quality report; 2) a set of internal quality assurance protocols; and 3) a yearly data audit program.
Background: Since its inception in 1997, the NCDR has been the basis for the development of performance and quality metrics, site-level quality improvement programs, and peer-reviewed health outcomes research.

Objectives: This study investigated the impact of adding novel elements to models predicting in-hospital mortality after percutaneous coronary interventions (PCIs).
Background: Massachusetts mandated public reporting of hospital-specific PCI mortality in 2003. In 2006, a physician advisory group recommended adding to the prediction models 3 attributes not collected by the National Cardiovascular Data Registry instrument.
Background: Carotid artery stenting (CAS) and carotid endarterectomy (CEA) are alternative strategies for stroke prevention in patients with atherosclerotic carotid disease. Although randomized clinical trials are the gold standard for assessing the relative benefits of different treatments, observational research is necessary for determining "real-world" effectiveness. Current recommendations limit the application of CAS to high-risk patients, undermining the ability to "balance" the characteristics of patients treated with either approach.
