Introduction: Small bowel obstruction (SBO) is one of the most common causes for hospital admission in Ethiopia. The use of water-soluble contrast agents (WSCAs) such as Gastrografin to manage adhesive SBO can predict nonoperative resolution of SBO and reduce decision time to surgery and length of hospital stay. However, nothing is known about practice patterns and Gastrografin use in low-income settings.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Kalid Sherefa"

  • - Kalid Sherefa's recent research focuses on gastrointestinal conditions, specifically small bowel obstruction (SBO) and ileosigmoid knotting (ISK), highlighting issues prevalent in low-income countries like Ethiopia.
  • - His study on the feasibility of using Gastrografin for managing adhesive SBO aims to improve patient outcomes by potentially reducing hospital stays and surgery times in resource-limited settings.
  • - Additionally, Sherefa's exploration of ISK emphasizes the critical need for better understanding and management of this rare but severe form of bowel obstruction, addressing gaps in data and clinical practices in his region.
