Purpose: Patients with platinum-resistant ovarian cancer respond poorly to existing therapies. Hence there is a need for more effective treatments.

Patients And Methods: The DeCidE1 trial is a multicenter, randomized, open-label, single-arm phase II study to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of maveropepimut-S with cyclophosphamide in patients with recurrent ovarian cancer.

Bioremediations analysis using multifactorial porous materials derived from tea residue.

Titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO NPs) are becoming more and more renowned as biocompatible nanomaterials with diverse biological functions. In the present study, the aqueous extract of tea residue (tea filtered waste powder) was used to synthesize the TiO NPs and treated for effluent bioremediations. Maximum absorption in the UV-Vis spectrum of the TiO NPs was seen at 358 nm, and the XRD pattern reveals peaks at 2 h values of 25.

Prevalence, clinico-laboratory features, and the functional outcome of children with scrub typhus meningoencephalitis-a cohort study.

Scrub typhus is being reported as the most common cause of childhood meningoencephalitis (ME) in India. Hence, we planned to estimate the proportion of scrub typhus infection among children aged 1 month to 12 years with the clinical diagnosis of ME and to evaluate their demographic, clinical and laboratory characteristics. This cohort study was conducted in the Department of Pediatrics of a tertiary care teaching hospital in south India.

Burden and Predictors of Malnutrition Among Indian Adolescents (10-19 Years): Insights From Comprehensive National Nutrition Survey Data.

Introduction: Malnutrition among adolescents is a persistent problem with a profound impact on different dimensions of health. The objective of this analysis is to assess the burden of malnutrition (Stunting, Thinness, Overweight, and Obesity) and their associated socio-demographic factors among Indian adolescents (10-19 years) from the Comprehensive National Nutritional Survey (CNNS 2016-18) data.

Methods: We used Individual-level data of 35,831 adolescents from the CNNS conducted in 2016-18 for this analysis.

India accounts for about one-fourth of the global burden of MDR-TB. This study aims to assess  the prevalence and factors associated with tuberculosis drug resistance among patients from South India. MTBDRplus assay and MGIT liquid culture performed on 20,245 sputum specimens obtained from presumptive MDR-TB cases during a six-year period from 2013 to 2018 were analyzed retrospectively.

Evaluation of the protective potential of antibody and T cell responses elicited by a novel preventative vaccine towards respiratory syncytial virus small hydrophobic protein.

The small hydrophobic (SH) glycoprotein of human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a transmembrane protein that is poorly accessible by antibodies on the virion but has an ectodomain (SHe) that is accessible and expressed on infected cells. The SHe from RSV strain A has been formulated in DPX, a unique delivery platform containing an adjuvant, and is being evaluated as an RSV vaccine candidate. The proposed mechanism of protection is the immune-mediated clearance of infected cells rather than neutralization of the virion.

Emergence of dengue virus 4 as the predominant serotype during the outbreak of 2017 in South India.

Context: Dengue virus (DENV) causes acute febrile illness in tropical and subtropical countries. In India there is a steady increase in incidence since 1950s which could be attributed to emergence of new serotype or lineage\clade shifts in circulating DENV.

Casting new physicochemical light on the fundamental biological processes in single living cells by using Raman microspectroscopy.

This Personal Account highlights the capabilities of spontaneous Raman microspectroscopy for studying fundamental biological processes in a single living cell. Raman microspectroscopy provides time- and space-resolved vibrational Raman spectra that contain detailed information on the structure and dynamics of biomolecules in a cell. By using yeast as a model system, we have made great progress in the development of this methodology.

Resonance Raman quantification of the redox state of cytochromes b and c in-vivo and in-vitro.

We observe the redox state changes with respiration of cytochromes b and c in mitochondria in a living Saccharomyces cerevisiae cell as well as in isolated mitochondria with the very use of Raman microspectroscopy. The possibility of monitoring the respiration activity of mitochondria in vivo and in vitro by Raman microspectroscopic quantification of the cytochrome redox states is suggested. It will lead to a new means to assess mitochondrial respiration activity in vivo and in vitro without using any labelling or genetic manipulation.

Workplace bullying in health systems is a well known fact. It leads to not only breakdown in teamwork but also has significant affect on the individual's personal life. True prevalence of bullying in junior doctors working in Ireland is unknown.

Arcanobacterium haemolyticum associated with pyothorax: case report.

Arcanobacterium haemolyticum has an established role in the etiology of human pharyngitis. There are increasing reports of systemic infections caused by this organism. From India, we report the first case of Arcanobacterium haemolyticum causing pyothorax in an immunocompetent adolescent male patient.

Psychological disturbance among 5- to 8-year-old school children: a study from India.

This paper presents findings on the prevalence of psychological disturbance among a sample of 5- to 8-year-old Indian school children. The study was cross-sectional with a two-instrument, two-phase design. In the first phase (screening), 48 teachers rated 1535 children (810 boys and 725 girls) drawn from five schools in Bangalore city on the 26-item Children's Behaviour Questionnaire (CBQ).

Mental health delivery system in general hospitals attached to medical colleges.

The psychiatric patient care facilities and services of fifty seven general hospitals attached to medical colleges in India were studied based on data pertaining to 1988. The average bed strength was 25 beds while the average length of stay was 21 days. Functional psychotics formed 62% of the discharged patients.

Detection of autoantibodies to neural antigens in the CSF of Japanese encephalitis patients and correlation of findings with the outcome.

This study reports the detection of autoantibodies to myelin basic protein (MBP) and neurofilament proteins (NFP) in serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of Japanese encephalitis patients. The diagnosis of Japanese encephalitis was confirmed in 72 patients by the presence of virus specific antibodies to JEV in the CSF (28/72), viral antigen in the CSF (19/72) and simultaneous presence of both antigen and JEV antibodies in the CSF in 25/72 patients. Autoantibodies to either purified NFP (10) or MBP (8) or both (17) were detected in the CSF of 35 patients by ELISA in contrast with the control CSF samples.

Premenstrual experiences: the four profiles and factorial patterns.

Premenstrual experiences were studied in 112 non-complaining women using the Premenstrual Assessment Forms I (for positive experiences), II (for distressing experiences) and the bi-directional Visual Analog Scale. Overall, 27% of women reported no or minimal changes, 20% reported predominantly negative experiences, and 18% predominantly positive feelings. However, the commonest experience was a mixed picture with coexisting positive and negative feelings in 35% of the subjects.

An experience with ultrasonically guided liver aspirates from south India.

Fine needle aspiration (FNA) was performed on 102 hepatic lesions under ultrasound control. Eighty-eight lesions were solid and 14 were cystic. Ninety aspirates provided adequate material for cytodiagnosis.

Climate and admissions for mania in the tropics.

Seasonality of admissions for mania has been commonly reported. Most reports are from temperature zones. We analyzed admissions for mania covering a 9 year period and looked for any seasonal trends using existing methods.

The purpose of this study was to develop a short tool for the assessment of home environment and psychosocial development of preschool children, based on the data collected on a sample of one hundred and fifty children in the age range of 2 years 10 months to 3 years 8 months. Co-relation analysis was used in identifying home environment and psychosocial development variables for the development of the tool.

Exploration of obsessive compulsive phenomena: a preliminary investigation.

Different dimensions of obsessions and compulsions were explored in 103 obsessions and 60 compulsions recorded from 32 subjects who received a primary diagnosis of obsessive compulsive disorder. Intrusiveness and repetitiveness formed relatively discrete dimensions, while resistance, distress, irrationality, interference and ease of dismissal tended to be associated within themselves. An anxiety-provoking effect was an additional dimension observed among compulsions.

Neurological complications due to Semple-type antirabies vaccine. Clinical and therapeutic aspects.

Thirty nine patients with neuroparalytic accidents due to the use of Semple-type antirabies vaccine were studied. The mean age of the patients was 25.8 +/- 13.
