Papillomatosis of the gallbladder associated with metachromatic leukodystrophy.

A 9-year-old boy with metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD) was found to have diffuse papillomatosis of the gallbladder that was virtually obliterating the lumen of the gallbladder. To our knowledge, two other examples of this lesion have been reported previously in MLD.

Renal failure in Wegener's granulomatosis: recovering following dialysis and cyclophosphamide-prednisone therapy.

Two patients with Wegener's granulomatosis, crescentic glomerulonephritis, and severe renal failure are described. Both patients required hemodialysis for control of uremic symptoms. Cyclophosphamide-prednisone therapy successfully controlled the extra-renal manifestations of their disease and reversed the renal failure so that dialysis could be discontinued.

Malakoplakia of palatine tonsil.

This paper's purpose is to document a case of unilateral tonsillar malakoplakia. Escherichia coli was repeatedly cultured from the lesion, and the isolate was studied by expert microbiologists who found no abnormalities in its biologic properties. The course of the lesion was followed by repeated punch biopsies before, and after the institution of antibiotic therapy.

Ovarian twin pregnancy.

A case of ovarian twin pregnancy is reported. Three other cases have been previously reported. All 4 cases were in parous women in their thirties.

Chondrosarcoma: a case report with left atrial involvement and systemic embolization.

A 26-year-old white man underwent amputation of the right lower extremity for a chondrosarcoma of the distal femur. Eleven years later, after a long symptom-free interval, he was hospitalized for rapidly progressive dyspnea, pleuritic chest pain, and hemoptysis resulting from a large pulmonary metastasis that had extended directly to the left atrium via the pulmonary vein. Within 24 hours of hospitalization, obstruction of the left commom iliac artery by tumor embolus necessitated embolectomy.

Ameloblastoma containing mucus glands.

A 53-year-old woman had a large, deforming mass involving the mandible and was treated by subtotal mandibulectomy. Histologically, the mass proved to be an acanthomatous ameloblastoma that contained mucus glands. Eleven years after the mandibulectomy, the tumor has not recurred or metastasized.

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma arising within a Warthin's tumor.

A case of low-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma arising within a Warthin's tumor is reported. The carcinoma appeared to have originated from the hyperplastic atypical epithelium of the Warthin's tumor. It did not infiltrate the capsule of the lymph node in which the Warthin's tumor developed.

Structural changes produced in Brown-Pearce carcinoma cells by means of a specific antibody and complement.

Structural changes were regularly observed in Brown-Pearce rabbit carcinoma cells that had been brought into contact, in the presence of complement, with rabbit serum containing an antibody that reacts specifically with a distinctive sedimentable constituent of the carcinoma cells. The cellular changes appeared rapidly and were accompanied by an equally rapid loss of viability. The structural changes, as disclosed by histological and cytological methods, including phase contrast microscopy, were described in detail and illustrated.
