Background: Monitoring elite athletes' body composition (BC) is vital for health and optimizing performance in sports emphasizing leanness, such as athletics. This study aims to investigate and compare sex- and event-specific off-to in-season BC changes in endurance and power event athletics competitors.

Methods: Elite male and female endurance athletes (> 800 m runners; n = 21) and power event athletes (sprinters, jumpers; n = 32) underwent dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scans for whole and regional lean mass (LM), fat mass (FM), bone mineral content (BMC), and density (BMD) during off-season (September-October) and in-season (April-May).

Radiation-induced G2-checkpoint activation contributes to the resistance of cancer cells to DNA damage induced toxicity. We hypothesized that P-AscH- induced radio-sensitization of PDAC cells is mediated by perturbations in the radiation induced activation of the G2-checkpoint pathway.

Pharmacologic ascorbate (P-AscH; intravenous administration achieving mM plasma concentrations) selectively enhances HO-induced oxidative stress and radiosensitization in tumors while acting as an antioxidant and mitigating radiation damage in normal tissues including the bowel. We hypothesized that P-AscH could enhance the therapeutic index of ATM inhibitor-based chemoradiation by simultaneously enhancing the intended effects of ATM inhibitors in tumors and mitigating off-target effects in adjacent normal tissues.

Association of Diet, Physical Activity Guidelines and Cardiometabolic Risk Markers in Children.

The aim was to identify different dietary and physical activity (PA) patterns in 5- to 14-year-old children with a high prevalence of overweight and obesity using cluster analysis based on their adherence to the Spanish Society of Community Nutrition dietary guidelines and levels of PA, and to determine their associations with age, sex, body composition, and cardiometabolic risk markers. In 549 children, hierarchical cluster analysis was used to identify subgroups with similar adherence to dietary recommendations and level of PA. Three clusters were identified: Cluster 1, with the lowest level of vigorous PA and adherence to dietary recommendations; Cluster 2, with the lowest levels of moderate and vigorous PA and the highest adherence to dietary recommendations; and Cluster 3, with the highest level of PA, especially vigorous PA and a medium level adherence to dietary recommendations.

Mitochondria represent an attractive target for cancer therapy based on their regulatory role in proliferation and cell death. Introduction: Most surgical site infections after shoulder surgery are caused by Cutibacterium acnes. Topically applied benzoyl peroxide (BPO) has for years been used to decrease the skin load of C acnes in treatment of acne vulgaris. The influence of initial selection age, relative age effect and country long-term performance on the re-selection process in European basketball youth national teams.

The aims of the study were to: (a) analyse the re-selection patterns in European youth basketball national teams, and (b) investigate how the chance of re-selection is influenced by the initial selection age and relative age of the players, as well as the long-term performance of the country at the youth level. The sample consisted of 8362 basketball players (5038 men, 3324 women) born 1988-1997 who have participated in at least one U16, U18 or U20 European youth basketball championship between 2004 and 2017. The results from the survival analysis showed that around 75% of male and 80% of female players participating in a championship were re-selected the following year.

Combination Therapy with Radiation and PARP Inhibition Enhances Responsiveness to Anti-PD-1 Therapy in Colorectal Tumor Models.

Purpose: The majority of colorectal cancers are resistant to cancer immune checkpoint inhibitors. Ionizing radiation (IR) and several radiosensitizers, including PARP inhibitors, can enhance responsiveness to immune checkpoint inhibitors by potentially complementary mechanisms of action. We assessed the ability of radiation and PARP inhibition to induce proimmunogenic changes in tumor cells and enhance their in vivo responsiveness to anti-PD-1 antibodies.
