[Hypolipidemic activity of trimethylglycine].

Hypolipidemic properties of a native trimethyl derivative of glycine, trimethylglycine (TMGl), were studied in hyperlipidemic rats and guinea pigs. The administration of TMGl to the hyperlipidemic rats and guinea pigs produced a pronounced hypolipidemic effect. A positive action of TMGl on the lipid profile of blood serum of the experimental animals was observed as manifested by a decrease in the level of cholesterol of low density lipoproteins (LDL) and an increase in the cholesterol level of high density lipoproteins (HDL).

[Immunity to poliovirus after vaccination of children with type 1 diabetes mellitus and rheumatic diseases].

Aim: To assess immunization coverage against poliomyelitis and level of immunity postvaccination in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM1) and rheumatic diseases.

Materials And Methods: Vaccination status of 299 children with DM1 and 136 children with rheumatic diseases was determined. Serologic test using neutralization reaction was performed in 31 children with DM1 and 29 children with rheumatic diseases.

[Aseptic meningitis season caused by enteroviruses in 2007: molecular-epidemiological aspects].

Aim: Analysis of manifestation of epidemic process of aseptic meningitis and causes of its activation using molecular genetic methods.

Materials And Methods: Samples of feces and CSF, nasopharyngeal swabs from 296 patients with aseptic meningitis (AM), as well as 240 samples of drinking water and 6 samples of lake water were studied. Epidemiologic analysis, isolation of enteroviruses in Hep-2 and RD cell cultures, RT-PCR, partial sequencing of 5'NTR and genome region coding VP1 were performed.

[Postvaccinal immunity to polio-viruses of children with chronic renal pathology].

41 children with chronic renal diseases (with different forms of chronic glomerulonephritis or chronic renal failure) previously vaccinated with 5 to 9 doses of oral poliovaccine (OPV) were examined. Analysis of immunity to polioviruses revealed insufficient serologic protection against all three types of polioviruses compared with general population. Algorithm of yearly serologic examination as well as a schedule of additional vaccination against poliomyelitis depending on chronic renal pathology were developed.

The role of high density lipoproteins (HDL), their subfractions (HDL2 and HDL3) and lecithin: cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT) on peroxidative modification of low density lipoproteins (LDL) in vitro was studied. Peroxidative modification was estimated by the formation of malonic dialdehyde (MDA) and LDL aggregates during LDL incubation at 37 degrees C for several days without Fe2+ or for 2 hours in the presence of Fe2+ in EDTA-free media. It was shown that the addition of HDL3 (but not HDL2) markedly decreases the formation of both MDA and LDL aggregates.

[Catabolism of native and modified high-density lipoproteins in rabbits].

Rates of fraction catabolism of rabbit and horse total 125I-high density lipoproteins (HDL) were shown to be similar in rabbits, after intravenous administration, while catabolism of human, dog and, especially, of rat lipoproteins occurred at the higher rate as compared with rabbit HDL. Rabbit HDL containing modified epsilon-aminogroups, or guanidine groups, or carboxyl groups and native HDL were quite similarly eliminated from circulation of healthy animals, whereas the lipoproteins with modified tyrosine residues and, especially, succinated HDL exhibited the highest rate of elimination. Radioactivity of spleen tissue and lymphatic glands was several-fold higher after intravenous administration of succinated homologous 125I-HDL into rabbits as compared with the effect of native homologous 125I-HDL; in kidney, adrenal glands, liver tissue and small intestine the level of radioactivity was analogous after treatment with both homologous native and succinated 125I-HDL.

Rates of catabolism of total fraction of human native high density lipoproteins (HDL) and their subfractions as well as horse and rabbit native and modified HDL were studied after intravenous administration of the HDL into healthy rabbits and the animals with experimental hypercholesterolemia. The following procedures were carried out for production of HDL derivatives: methylation, succination, blocking of Arg residues and of COOH-groups. Rates of catabolism were similar for rabbit and horse total fractions of 125I-HDL, whereas human HDL were catabolized at a slightly higher rates as compared with rabbit lipoproteins.
