Purpose Of The Study: Subtotal or total meniscectomy will increase weight-bearing per square unit of the cartilage surface approximately threeand- half-times. A long-term overloading of cartilage is clinically manifested by pain, swelling and a rapid onset of early arthritic lesions discernible on radiograms. One of the options for the treatment of degenerative changes in the joint is meniscal transplant.

Aim: The authors present a restrospective assessment of acute traumatic patellar luxation.

Material: From 1999 to 2003, the authors treated 57 patients with acute traumatic patellar luxations, including 36 females and 21 males, the age range was 16-40 years. In cases of marked lateralization of the patella, the injured medial retinaculum was sutured under arthroscopic control.

Purpose Of The Study: In this retrospective evaluation the authors present the group of patients with intraarticular calcaneal fractures that were treated from an extended lateral approach.

Material: In the period from 2001 to 2003, 32 patients with intra-articular calcaneal fractures were treated by osteosynthesis, using a plate, from the extended lateral approach. All patients were men at an average age of 41.

Purpose Of The Study: The authors present their experience with arthroscopic stabilization of a primary traumatic dislocation of the glenohumeral joint in young patients.

Material: In up to 80% of patients younger than 25 years, traumatic dislocation of the glenohumeral joint is associated with its recurrence within one year of treatment even in well performed conservative therapy. Repeated dislocations gradually damage the joint and eventually result in the development of arthritis.

The authors submit an analysis of a group of 143 patients to whom in 1985-1990 in the Traumatological Research Institute in Brno a cervicocapital endoprosthesis was implanted. Indication for implantation was in all instances a fracture of the neck of the femur, most frequently a subcapital fracture--a total of 92. Women predominated 5:1.

The authors analyze all total endoprostheses which were performed at their department in 1985-1990 for traumatic indications--an injury or its immediate sequelae: 6 times an implantation was made because of fracture, 11 times because of failure of primary synthesis or serious aseptic necrosis of the head after synthesis. There were no prostheses on account of late deforming arthritis which developed on a posttraumatic background. Seventeen total endoprostheses made on account of traumatic indication account for 7.
