Intimate Partner Violence and Associated Coping Strategies among Women in a Primary Care Clinic in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

Context: Intimate partner violence (IPV) is an important gender-based, social, and public health problem, affecting women globally.

Aims: The aim was to report the prevalence of IPV and describe the coping strategies of the victims.

Settings And Design: It was conducted in the general outpatient clinic of a tertiary care hospital using a cross-sectional design.

Community participation and childhood immunization coverage: A comparative study of rural and urban communities of Bayelsa State, south-south Nigeria.

Background: Immunization coverage rates in Nigeria have remained very poor, in spite of numerous programs and strategies, specifically designed to improve coverage. This study was to assess the possible effects of greater community participation on immunization coverage, by comparing the immunization coverage in a rural community with a functional community health committee, with an urban community, with no distinct community structure.

Materials And Methods: The study was carried out in Ondewari, a rural, riverine community, in Bayelsa State; and Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, south-south Nigeria; using a cross-sectional, comparative study design.

Uses of crude oil as traditional medicine: a survey of mothers in a rural clinic in South-south Nigeria.

Introduction: Crude oil is used as traditional medicine among rural dwellers in South-south Nigeria. Although complications have been reported following its use, this rural populace holds tenaciously to an erroneous belief in its efficacy in treating many ailments. Despite this widespread use there are no known studies from the region on the use of crude oil in this way.
