Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between inter-reader variability in manual prostate contour segmentation on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations and determine the optimal number of readers required to establish a reliable reference standard.
Materials And Methods: Seven radiologists with various experiences independently performed manual segmentation of the prostate contour (whole-gland [WG] and transition zone [TZ]) on 40 prostate MRI examinations obtained in 40 patients. Inter-reader variability in prostate contour delineations was estimated using standard metrics (Dice similarity coefficient [DSC], Hausdorff distance and volume-based metrics).
This study aims to obtain empirical evidence of the existence of a nonlinear effect of imported technology on industrial employment, which has been largely overlooked in the literature. To achieve this objective, this article employed panel data models using non-linear panel threshold regression (PTR) approaches for a sample of developed and developing countries over the period of technological advancement from 2000 to 2019. Several conclusions were drawn from this study.

The empirical methodology used is based on the one hand on the linear autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model of Pesaran et al. (Econ Soc Monogr 31:371-413.

They constitute a heterogenous group of disorders characterized by absent or reduced synthesis of adult hemoglobin (Hb A) and increased synthesis of fetal hemoglobin (Hb F). Although the clinical severity of these disorders are asymptomatic owing to the increased Hb F levels, the molecular basis is very heterogenous due to the large deletions in the β-globin cluster spanning both and genes.

Study Design: Hematological parameters were collected using an automated blood cell counter. The amounts of Hb fractions were measured by capillary electrophoresis of Hb.

Objectives: The 5' upstream region of the HBG1 gene plays a very important role in the expression of fetal hemoglobin (HbF). In contrast, increased HbF levels can inhibit the deoxygenation-induced polymerization of sickle hemoglobin (α2βS2), which leads to moderation at the clinical level among sickle cell disease (SCD) patients. Thus, we focused on this article on the study of the 5' upstream region of HBG1 among SCD pediatric patients with high levels of HbF.

Treatment for rabies does not exist due to incomplete understanding of the pathogenesis. MALT1 mediates activation of several immune cell types and is involved in the proliferation and survival of cancer cells.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFMALT1 is involved in the activation of immune responses, as well as in the proliferation and survival of certain cancer cells. MALT1 acts as a scaffold protein for NF-κB signaling and a cysteine protease that cleaves substrates, further promoting the expression of immunoregulatory genes. Deregulated MALT1 activity has been associated with autoimmunity and cancer, implicating MALT1 as a new therapeutic target.

Previously, we described macrophage cytotoxicity upon infection with rabies virus. Here we examined the type of cell death and the role of specific caspases in cell death and disease development upon infection with two laboratory strains of rabies virus: Challenge Virus Standard strain-11 (CVS-11) is highly neurotropic and lethal for mice, while the attenuated Evelyn-Rotnycki-Abelseth (ERA) strain has a broader cell tropism, is non-lethal and has been used as an oral vaccine for animals.

However, investigation of this enzymopathy is lacking in Tunisia. We report here a pioneer investigation of PK deficiency among Tunisian cases referred to our laboratory for biological analysis of unknown cause of hemolytic anemia.

Several mechanisms for increased adherence have been postulated and the well-studied are CD36 and VLA4 which encoded by ITGA4. Herein, we sought to determine whether one polymorphism of CD36 namely: rs1984112 and three exons of ITGA4 (4, 5, and 6) are implicated in hemolytic status and clinical events among SCD Tunisian patients.

HbF genes are genetically regulated, and the level of HbF and its distribution among sickle erythrocytes is highly variable. Herein, we aimed to determine whether two functional polymorphisms of BCL11A are implicated in the variation of HbF and clinical events in SCA Tunisian patients.

Aim: Herein, we investigated the effect of glibert mutation on the occurrence of pigment cholelithiasis in Tunisian patients with beta (β) hemoglobinopathy including sickle cell anemia and β thalassemia (minor).
Subjects And Methods: Our study included 151 subjects divided in 75 SCA patients and 76 β thalassemia patients.

In vitro phosphorylation assays with the active recombinant PknD showed that the intracellular protein NAD+-dependent malate dehydrogenase (MDH) is a substrate of this kinase. MDH, an energy-supplying enzyme, catalyzes the interconversion of malate and oxaloacetate and plays crucial roles in several metabolic pathways including the citric acid cycle.

Aims: The skeletal manifestations of sickle cell disease are the result of changes in bone and bone marrow caused by chronic tissue hypoxia that is exacerbated by episodic occlusion of the microcirculation by the abnormal sickle cells. Furthermore, the occurrence of osteonecrosis is under the control of some modifier gene. BMP6 (Bone morphogenetic protein) has been reported as associated with osteonecrosis in sickle cell anemia (SCA).

Material And Methods: Our study was performed in 2010 and it involved 76 subjects chosen as control group characterized with normal hemoglobin status and presence of cholelithiasis and 102 SCA pediatric patients among whom 52 have cholelithiasis. We analyzed the polymorphism A(TA)nTAA at the UGT1A1 promoter and the relationships between the various A(TA)nTAA genotypes and alleles and bilirubin levels and occurrence of cholelithiasis.
The pro-inflammatory context of sickle cell disease promotes the liberation of cytokines such as CCL5, encoded by a gene located on chromosome 17. Herein, the occurrence of three variations of CCL5 in sickle cell anemia (SCA) and their relations to two major complications - painful crisis and presence of infections - were investigated. 100 SCA Tunisian patients and 100 healthy subjects were included in the case control study.
