Background: Paper symptom diaries are a common tool for assessing motor fluctuations in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients, but there are concerns about inaccuracies in the assessment of motor fluctuation due to recall bias and poor compliance. We, therefore, developed an electronic diary with reminder and real-time recording functions.
Objectives And Methods: To evaluate the effectiveness of the electronic diary, we compared compliance and motor fluctuation assessment with a paper diary.
The study aims to investigate the vitamin B6 levels in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients and their association with liver enzymes and evaluate how much dysregulation is associated with levodopa dose. Furthermore, to evaluate the effect of Opicapone, a catechol-o-methyl-transferase inhibitor, on vitamin B6 levels by monitoring the AST and ALT levels in patients treated with Levodopa-Carbidopa Intestinal Gel Infusion (LCIG). Lipid interaction with α-synuclein (αSyn) has been long implicated in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD). However, it has not been fully determined which lipids are involved in the initiation of αSyn aggregation in PD. Here exploiting genetic understanding associating the loss-of-function mutation in Synaptojanin 1 (SYNJ1), a phosphoinositide phosphatase, with familial PD and analysis of postmortem PD brains, we identified a novel lipid molecule involved in the toxic conversion of αSyn and its relation to PD.

Methods: Serum ADMA levels of sporadic ALS patients (n = 68), disease control patients (n = 54) and healthy controls (n = 20) were measured using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. Correlations of the ADMA level and other markers (nitric oxide and neurofilament light chain levels) were analyzed.
Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by the formation of neuronal inclusions of α-synuclein in patient brains. As the disease progresses, toxic α-synuclein aggregates transmit throughout the nervous system. No effective disease-modifying therapy has been established, and preventing α-synuclein aggregation is thought to be one of the most promising approaches to ameliorate the disease.

The patient was a 69-year-old Japanese man without relevant family history, who initially presented with slow progressive muscle weakness of the lower extremities without upper motor neuron signs, and died of respiratory failure 6 years after the onset. Neuropathological examination revealed a loss of lower motor neurons and degeneration of Clarke's column commensurate with that of the posterior spinocerebellar tract and the middle root zone of the posterior column.

We show that a DISC1 point mutation alters intermolecular cohesiveness promoting the phase separation, and disrupts sensorimotor gating monitored by the prepulse inhibition in a mouse model of schizophrenia. Although the conformation of DISC1 partial peptide with the schizophrenia-related mutation L607F in human or the corresponding L604F in mouse was essentially indistinguishable from the wild type (WT) as long as monitored by fluorescence, circular dichroism, ultracentrifugation, dynamic light scattering and nuclear magnetic resonance, the atomic force microscopy was able to detect their morphological distinctions.

The combination of a UV short-pulse laser (355 nm, 6 ns) for fluorescence excitation with a 10-100 ns short-time synchronous detection using a gated image-intensified multi-channel CCD of the fluorescence made the LIFS lidar operation possible even in daytime. The LIFS lidar with this construction demonstrated the potential of natural river/lake water quality monitoring at the Tenryu River/Lake Suwa.

A P-H spirophosphorane was synthesized by utilizing the new bidentate ligand, and the structure of the product was essentially the same as that of the P-H phosphorane with Martin ligands. Phosphoranes that exhibit reversed apicophilicity (O-equatorial) were also synthesized and could be converted into the corresponding stable stereoisomers (O-apical).

Calcification was detected in 57 (38%) nodules, 31 (54%) of which was histologically diagnosed as cancer. According to the calcification types, 9 of 11 nodules with microcalcifications, 15 of 29 nodules with intranodular coarse calcification, 6 of 14 nodules with peripheral calcification and 1 of 3 calcified spots without surrounding tumor were diagnosed as cancer.
