This work presents the development of a rhodamine-based colorimetric and turn-on fluorescent chemosensor (P1) designed for selective recognition of Ni ions. Chemosensor P1 exhibited remarkable sensitivity and selectivity for Ni ions, exhibiting clear colorimetric and fluorescence responses. The binding interactions were meticulously examined using UV-Vis.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the disparities in cervical cancer screening rates among Indian women, focusing on differences between urban and rural populations and analyzing socio-demographic factors.
  • The research utilizes data from the National Family Health Survey (2019-21) with a large sample of women to assess coverage rates and identify patterns affecting disparities in screening.
  • Results show a nationwide cervical cancer screening rate of only 2.0%, with urban women having slightly higher rates than rural women, and highlights influences such as education level and regional factors on screening likelihood.

Background: Exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) is defined as feeding infants only breast milk of the mother or a wet nurse for the first six months, without additional food or liquids except the oral rehydration solution or drops/syrups of vitamins, minerals or medicines. The working status of women in developed countries adversely affects the EBF rates, which calls for an assessment in rapidly developing countries like India. Therefore, the primary aim of the present study is to determine the prevalence of EBF using the data from the National Family Health Surveys (NFHS 3, 4, 5) conducted between 2005 and 06, 2015-16 and 2019-21 to estimate the likelihood EBF according to mothers' employment status.

The rising global prevalence of diabetes poses a serious threat to public health, national economies, and the healthcare system. Despite a high degree of disease heterogeneity and advancing techniques, there is still an unclear diagnosis of patients with diabetes compounded by the array of long-term microvascular and macrovascular complications associated with the disease. In addition to environmental variables, diabetes susceptibility is significantly influenced by genetic components.

A novel Schiff base moiety, ()-4-(1-hydrazonoethyl)benzene-1,3-diol (2), and 2,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde were condensed in a 1 : 1 molar ratio to generate 4-(()-1-((()-2,4dihydroxybenzylidene)hydrazono)ethyl)benzene-1,3-diol (L), which was then characterized using high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS), H-NMR, C NMR, and single-crystal XRD techniques. UV-vis absorbance measurements were used to determine whether the Schiff base could detect the cupric ions more effectively than the other transition metal ions. When Cu ions were involved, a new band was observed at 462 nm.
