This study aimed to propose a methodology for developing a mechanistic model for viral clearance of the minute virus of mice (MVM) on flow-through anion exchange (AEX) chromatography. Protein surface analysis was applied to investigate the possibility of molecular interaction between the recombinant biotherapeutic and MVM. The protein product-free Tris buffers were spiked with MVM, and the MVM elution profile from AEX chromatography was quantitatively analyzed using quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) for pooled fractions.

[Pharmacoeconomic evaluation of combination therapy with dutasteride and α1 blocker for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia in Japan].

The cost-effectiveness of combination therapy with an α1 blocker and dutasteride in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) was analyzed in comparison with α1 blocker monotherapy. A Markov model with seven health states related to BPH was constructed with 4-year and 10-year time horizons and from the entire payers perspective. The transition probabilities among different health states input into the model were mainly derived from CombAT Study data, while cost parameters were estimated from a clinical database including DPC claims.

Dynamics of delayed p53 mutations in mice given whole-body irradiation at 8 weeks.

Purpose: Ionizing irradiation might induce delayed genotoxic effects in a p53-dependent manner. However, a few reports have shown a p53 mutation as a delayed effect of radiation. In this study, we investigated the p53 gene mutation by the translocation frequency in chromosome 11, loss of p53 alleles, p53 gene methylation, p53 nucleotide sequence, and p53 protein expression/phosphorylation in p53(+/+) and p53(+/-) mice after irradiation at a young age.

Hepatoprotective effect of sesquiterpenes in turmeric.

Hepatoprotective effect of turmeric together with its sesquiterpenes and curcuminoids fractions were examined on D-galactosamine induced liver injury in rats. All the diets individually contained the turmeric extract, the curcuminoids fraction, and the sesquiterpenes fraction suppressed the increase of LDH, ALT, and AST levels caused by D-GalN treatment. Since few anti-oxidative activities are expected in the sesquiterpenes fraction, it is presumed that hepatoprotective mechanism of sesquiterpenes in turmeric is different from that of curuminoids.

Role of p53 gene in apoptotic repair of genotoxic tissue damage in mice.

When DNA is damaged by exposure to a small amount of radiation, it is repaired efficiently by innate mechanisms. However, if cellular damage is more extensive, DNA repair cannot be adequately completed. To clarify the role of the p53 gene in apoptotic tissue repair, the incidence of in-vivo radiation-induced somatic mutation was evaluated by measuring the T cell receptor (TCR) gene expression in p53(+/+) and p53(-/-) mice.

Micronuclei induced by low dose rate irradiation in early spermatids of p53 null and wild mice.

To obtain evidence of the dose-rate effect on induction of micronuclei in early spermatids, we observed frequencies in wild-type p53(+/+), heterozygous p53(+/-) and null p53(-/-) mice 14 days after gamma rays irradiation at a high (1,020 mGy/min) or a low (1.2 mGy/min) dose-rate. A dose- and dose-rate-related increase in micronuclei was seen in early spermatids with no difference between the different p53 status.

[Recurrence of thymoma accompanied with hypogammaglobulinemia 20 years after surgery: a case report].

We reported a case of recurrence of localized thymoma accompanied with hypogammaglobulinemia (Good's syndrome) 20 years after surgery. [Analysis of chronic excretors of Mycobacterium bacilli in Aichi Prefecture].

Among the patients diagnosed as having pulmonary tuberculosis who were newly admitted to six major tuberculosis centers in Aichi Prefecture during the period from January 1, 1982 to December 31, 1986, 73 patients were chronic excretors of Mycobacterium bacilli (chronics), whose sputum cultures tested positive at both 11 and 12 months after admission. In this study, those 73 patients were analyzed in March 1988. If the patient was still hospitalized at that time, the patient was re-evaluated six months later.

[Therapeutic efficacy of imipenem/cilastatin sodium on respiratory tract infections in lung cancer patients].
