Whether or not vascular endothelial growth factor pathway inhibitors (VPIs) increase the risk of artery dissection is still unknown. This study aimed to quantitatively evaluate the possibility of artery dissection as a class effect of VPIs using nationwide real-world data. This cohort study was conducted based on the National Database of Health Insurance Claims and Specific Health Checkups of Japan (NDB), which spans nearly the entire Japanese population of over 100 million individuals.

Background: The challenge with the stentless strategy is that the method of optimal predilatation, and predictors of success remain unknown. Studies involving the stentless strategy prior to predilatation are limited. This study aimed to evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of a new stentless strategy for treating acute coronary syndrome (ACS) using gradual, prolonged predilation with a perfusion balloon combined with a drug-coated balloon (DCB).

Glycan structures exhibit significant heterogeneity, varying with production cell types, culture conditions, and purification methods. Consequently, monitoring and evaluating the glycan structures of recombinant proteins is vital, particularly in biopharmaceutical production.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the safety of BPs in patients with decreased kidney function.
Methods: The cohort study was conducted in patients with osteoporosis and newly prescribed bisphosphonate utilizing real-world data from MID-NET in Japan.
Purpose: Advances in primary lung cancer drug therapy have extended patients' survival, including patients with stage IV disease. This study assessed the safety and effectiveness of salvage surgery following tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) or immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy in primary lung cancer.
Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted of 2050 primary lung cancer surgeries performed at our institution between 2012 and 2022.
Introduction: This study was conducted to understand the impact of package insert (PI) revision in Japan on 18 June 2019 to allow metformin use for patients with moderately decreased kidney function (30 ≤ estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) < 60 mL/min/1.73 m).
Methods: A new user cohort design was employed to examine the prescription trend and the occurrence of lactic acidosis in patients prescribed metformin before and after PI revision using the Medical Information Database Network (MID-NET).
Objective: Prescription trends and patterns of anti-COVID-19 drugs in hospitalized patients were examined based on real world data to understand the use of anti-COVID-19 drugs in clinical practice in Japan.
Design: The longitudinal and cross-sectional study was conducted utilizing data from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2021 of the MID-NET® medical information database, which stored the electronic medical records, administrative claim data, and diagnosis procedure combination data of patients in Japan.
Participants: Hospitalized patients with a COVID-19-related diagnosis who received at least one anti-COVID-19 drug between April 1, 2020 and December 31, 2021.
Of 243 resected cases of primary non-small cell lung cancer for ten years in our hospital, we experienced 4 patients (1.6%) of pulmonary pleomorphic carcinoma. All patients were males and heavy smokers.

To investigate the risks of gastrointestinal perforation and intestinal obstruction in patients prescribed atypical antipsychotics compared with those in patients prescribed typical antipsychotics, a nested case-control study was conducted utilizing real-world data from the MID-NET medical information database in Japan. The study period spanned from January 1, 2009, to December 31, 2018.

Coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) can be used to noninvasively observe plaques throughout the coronary arteries. To evaluate the impact of intensive low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C)-lowering therapy on quantitative changes in coronary plaque, assessed using CCTA in a study population with ACS.

A left ventricular pseudoaneurysm is a rare complication that can occur after infective endocarditis, possibly leading to serious complications such as cardiac tamponade, rupture and recurrent infective endocarditis. We report a case of a totally-endoscopic repair of a pseudoaneurysm after endoscopic mitral valve repair. A 48-year-old woman underwent endoscopic mitral valve repair for active infective endocarditis.

The purpose of this study was to assess the clinical outcomes, including prognostic factors for pancreatic resection of metastatic tumors in the pancreas, through a retrospective review.

To develop an enzymatic PG determination method as the high-throughput analysis of PG, a PG-specific phospholipase C (PG-PLC) was found in the culture supernatant of Amycolatopsis sp. NT115.

Methods: Among the 953 patients who received initial treatment for primary HCC that was resectable by either LLH or OLH from 2013 to 2017 in Japan and Korea, 146 patients underwent LLH and 807 underwent OLH. The inverse probability of treatment weighting approach based on propensity scoring was used to address the potential selection bias inherent in the recurrence and survival outcomes between the LLH and OLH groups.

Despite the requirement of routine blood tests during thiamazole treatment in Japan, granulocytopenia among patients treated with thiamazole has been occasionally reported to the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA). To characterize granulocytopenia in patients with thiamazole in Japan, the effects of routine blood tests were examined in a cohort of new users of thiamazole or propylthiouracil utilizing the MID-NET. The occurrence of granulocytopenia (neutrophil count ≤ 1,500/μL) in a given period was compared between patients with and without blood test results prior to the period.

We conducted an observational study with a cohort design using the National Database of Health Insurance Claims and Specific Health Checkups of Japan, including new urate-lowering drugs users between August 1, 2010, and March 31, 2018. Exposure and control groups were defined based on the first prescription of urate-lowering drugs as follows: febuxostat or topiroxostat for exposure groups, allopurinol for the control group, and benzbromarone for the secondary control group.

The risk classification of GISTs is based on the tumor size, mitotic index, tumor site, and presence of tumor rupture. Recurrence in the very-low-risk group is extremely rare.

In this study, phenylene-bridged diazacycloalkanes, that is, , , and , in which numbers indicate the lengths of a side chain, were synthesized, and the effects of the macroring size on their structures and oxidation properties were investigated. X-ray crystallography revealed that the structures around the nitrogen atoms were remarkably dependent on the chain lengths.
