Background: To investigate the efficacy of three-compartment restriction spectrum imaging (RSI), diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI), and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in the assessment of lymph node metastases (LNM) in rectal cancer.

Methods: A total of 77 patients with rectal cancer who underwent pelvic MRI were enrolled. RSI-derived parameters (f, f, and f), DKI-derived parameters (D and K), and the DWI-derived parameter (ADC) were calculated and compared using a Mann-Whitney U test or independent samples t-test.

We have developed a polyethylenimine-functionalized covalent organic framework (COF) for capturing CO from the air. It was synthesized by the crystallization of an imine-linked COF, termed imine-COF-709, followed by linkage oxidation and polyamine installation through aromatic nucleophilic substitution. The chemistry of linkage oxidation and amine installation was fully characterized through Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (ssNMR) spectroscopy.

Permeance-selectivity trade-off and high temperature resilience are key challenges in development of membranes for post-combustion carbon capture. While mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) consisting of polymers and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) offer the potential to address the challenges, they are limited by the low loading of MOFs in the thin film layer. Herein, we propose an inverse synthesis strategy to form polymer-MOF networks by copolymerizing monomers with functionalized UiO-66 nanoparticles.

Methicillin-resistant (MRSA), one of the most important zoonotic bacterial pathogens, necessitates innovative antibacterial strategies. Rosmarinic acid (RA) possesses various biological functions, including antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. This study aimed to explore the synergistic effects and mechanism of RA in conjunction with ceftiofur (CF) against MRSA.

Owing to their well-defined crystalline pore structures and ordered functional ionic groups along the skeleton, ionic covalent organic frameworks (iCOFs) exhibit excellent performance and have significant potential for use in energy storage and conversion devices. Herein, we for the first time developed cationic phosphonium COFs with high hydroxide conduction even with low ion exchange capacity (IEC). Specifically, we synthesized COFs containing quaternary phosphonium groups as excellent ion transport moieties.

3,3'-Diindolylmethane (DIM), a compound derived from natural fruits and vegetables, is widely recognized for its anti-cancer activity. However, its action mechanisms remain ambiguous. In this study, to study the molecular mechanism of 3,3'-Diindolylmethane, we identified a novel mutation in the gene of mitochondrial translation elongation factor EF-Ts (tsf1), a key factor in mitochondrial protein translation, that conferred DIM resistance to Schizosaccharomyces pombe.

Capture of CO from the air offers a promising approach to addressing climate change and achieving carbon neutrality goals. However, the development of a durable material with high capacity, fast kinetics and low regeneration temperature for CO capture, especially from the intricate and dynamic atmosphere, is still lacking. Here a porous, crystalline covalent organic framework (COF) with olefin linkages has been synthesized, structurally characterized and post-synthetically modified by the covalent attachment of amine initiators for producing polyamines within the pores.

Terahertz spectroscopy systems, which integrate terahertz sources and detectors, have important applications in many fields such as materials science and security checking. Based on highly sensitive frequency up-conversion detection, large dynamic range spectral measurements in a terahertz region are reported. Our system realized the detection sensitivity at a 10 aJ level with a 2-(3-(4-hydroxystyryl)-5,5-dime-thylcyclohex-2-enylidene) malononitrile (OH1) crystal and a dynamic range up to seven orders.

The rapid advancement in artificial intelligence and natural language processing has led to the development of large-scale datasets aimed at benchmarking the performance of machine learning models. Herein, we introduce "RetChemQA", a comprehensive benchmark dataset designed to evaluate the capabilities of such models in the domain of reticular chemistry. This dataset includes both single-hop and multi-hop question-answer pairs, encompassing approximately 45,000 question and answers (Q&As) for each type.

Background: Early targeted antibiotic therapy is crucial for improving the prognosis of immunocompromised patients with severe respiratory infections (SRIs) in the intensive care unit (ICU). Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) has shown significant value in pathogen detection, but research on lower respiratory tract microorganisms remains limited.

Methods: This study enrolled 234 patients with SRIs in the ICU, and individuals were categorized into immunocompromised and immunocompetent groups.

3,3'-Diindolylmethane is recognized for its anti-cancer activities in various pathways, though its mechanism remains to be fully elucidated. Previous studies have shown that 3,3'-Diindolylmethane disturbed the localization of Cut11, a nuclear pore complex subunit in Schizosaccharomyces pombe. This study further reveals that in Schizosaccharomyces pombe, 3,3'-Diindolylmethane also disrupts other components of nuclear envelope, causing GFP-NLS leakage, making it evident that 3,3'-Diindolylmethane disrupts the nuclear envelope.

Article Synopsis
  • Sperm capture techniques that immobilize sperm are crucial for analyzing individual sperm in assisted reproductive technologies like ICSI, but traditional methods often limit natural sperm movement.
  • This text introduces a new microfluidic device that captures sperm while allowing flagellar motion, utilizing their natural behavior to guide them into a capture zone.
  • By enabling free movement of the flagellum, this device enhances research accuracy on sperm dynamics and simplifies analysis, addressing past inconsistencies in sperm behavior studies.

Motor systems implement diverse motor programs to pattern behavioral sequences, yet how different motor actions are controlled on a moment-by-moment basis remains unclear. Here, we investigated the neural circuit mechanisms underlying the control of distinct courtship songs in Drosophila. Courting males rapidly alternate between two types of song: pulse and sine.

Potential changes in patterns of dynamic functional network connections at the cerebellar-cerebral level in pontine infarction (PI) patients remain unclear. The study aimed to investigate the abnormal patterns of dynamic functional connectivity (dFC) between the cerebellar subregions within networks and regions of the cerebral cortex in patients with PI. Forty-six chronic left pontine infarction (LPI), 32 chronic right pontine infarction (RPI), and 50 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited to undergo resting-state fMRI scans.

Inflammation is a protective stress response triggered by external stimuli, with 5-lipoxygenase (5LOX) playing a pivotal role as a potent mediator of the leukotriene (Lts) inflammatory pathway. Nordihydroguaiaretic acid (NDGA) functions as a natural orthosteric inhibitor of 5LOX, while 3-acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid (AKBA) acts as a natural allosteric inhibitor targeting 5LOX. However, the precise mechanisms of inhibition have remained unclear.

Diffusion Kurtosis Imaging (DKI)-derived metrics are recognized as indicators of maturation in neonates with low-grade germinal matrix and intraventricular hemorrhage (GMH-IVH). However, it is not yet known if these factors are associated with neurodevelopmental outcomes. The objective of this study was to acquire DKI-derived metrics in neonates with low-grade GMH-IVH, and to demonstrate their association with later neurodevelopmental outcomes.
