Retreatability of calcium silicate-based root canal sealer using reciprocating instrumentation with different irrigation activation techniques in single-rooted canals.

This study analysed the bioceramic sealer cleaning ability of two chemo-mechanical systems in intact and restored teeth. Thirty-two single-rooted teeth were used, and half of them restored with a pre-endodontic composite restoration (PCR). All samples were instrumented with a size 40 Reciproc Blue file and filled with BioRoot RCS.

Interaction of zirconia primers with yttria-stabilized zirconia surfaces.

Objectives: Recently several zirconia primers have been introduced to mediate bonding of dimethacrylate resins to yttria-stabilized zirconia frameworks (Y-TZP). The aim of the study was to evaluate the changes in surface chemistry of Y-TZP frameworks induced by zirconia primer treatments.

Methods: Polished Y-TZP discs (Lava, 3M ESPE), ultrasonicated for 10min in ethanol, water-rinsed and air-dried were treated as follows: A: Reference (no treatment), B: Treatment with Z Prime Plus (Bisco), and C: Treatment with Z-Bond (Danville Materials).

Tensile test and interface retention forces between wires and composites in lingual fixed retainers.

Introduction: In daily orthodontic clinical practice retention is very important, and lingual retainers are part of this challenge. The failure of lingual retainers may be due to many factors. The aim of this study was to assess the retention forces and mechanical behavior of different types of wires matched with different kinds of composites in lingual retainers.

Diastema closure is a frequently requested, technique-sensitive cosmetic procedure. There are many techniques and materials that can be employed to close diastemas. While direct composite techniques can be economical and successful, they do present challenges in achieving satisfactory clinical and esthetic results.

Clinical evaluation of an oval-shaped prefabricated glass fiber post in endodontically treated premolars presenting an oval root canal cross-section: a retrospective cohort study.

Purpose: This retrospective cohort study investigated the clinical effectiveness of preformed oval-shaped glass fiber posts in combination with a dual-curing composite resin core material in endodontically treated premolars presenting an oval root canal cross-section and restored with all-ceramic crowns over up to 45 months.

Materials And Methods: The study population comprised 134 patients and 154 endodontically treated premolars, with varying degrees of hard tissue loss, restored by means of oval-shaped fiber-reinforced posts. Inclusion criteria were premolars presenting an oval-shaped root canal, symptom-free endodontic therapy, root canal treatment with a minimum apical seal of 4 mm, application of rubber dam, and the need for a post and core complex because of coronal tooth loss.

Simplified technique for rebuilding a post and core foundation with a preexisting crown: a case report.

A 58-year-old patient presented with a dislodged crown and post and core on the maxillary right first premolar. After endodontic retreatment, two tapered glass-fiber posts were adhesively cemented. The core foundation was completed by retrofitting the existing crown with a self-curing composite core material.

Use of the erbium, chromium:yttrium-scandium-gallium-garnet laser on human enamel tissues. Influence of the air-water spray on the laser-tissue interaction: scanning electron microscope evaluations.

The study investigated the influence of varying amounts of air/water spray and the energy used by an erbium, chromium:yttrium-scandium-gallium-garnet (Er,Cr:YSGG) 2,780 nm laser when treating dental tissues. The morphological effects produced by the laser interaction on healthy human enamel were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The vestibular and lingual surfaces of ten molars were treated with laser at different power settings; each surface was subdivided into cervical, median, and occlusal parts and treated with different proportions of water spray; the series contained 60 tooth portions.

Objectives: This retrospective study investigated the clinical effectiveness over up to 8 years of parallel-sided and of tapered glass-fiber posts, in combination with either hybrid composite or dual-cure composite resin core material, in endodontically treated, maxillary anterior teeth covered with full-ceramic crowns.

Methods: The study population comprised 192 patients and 526 endodontically treated teeth, with various degrees of hard-tissue loss, restored by the post-and-core technique. Four groups were defined based on post shape and core build-up materials, and within each group post-and-core restorations were assigned randomly with respect to root morphology.

Lingual orthodontics and forced eruption: a means for osseous and tissue regeneration.

An hopeless upper central incisor was subjected to forced eruption in order to improve and develop the implant site by distraction of the periodontal ligament-alveolar bone complex. The orthodontic extrusion was carried out with two aesthetic approaches: lingual orthodontics and a composite resin 2-2 veneer pontic. The first part of the extrusion was realized with lingual orthodontics alone, then, when the crown had been remodelled in its greatest part and the aesthetics was no more acceptable to the patient a composite resin 2-2 veneer pontic was bonded to the vestibular side of the other three incisors to mimetise the extruded tooth and to be anchorage to the lingual mechanics.

The sleep of adults and childrens is often disturbed from obstructive respiratory desorders evidenced from snoring. Scientific literature agrees in considering that as a dangerous pathology called roncopathy. Influence of amalgam fillings on Hg levels and total antioxidant activity in plasma of healthy donors.

In order to evaluate the influence of specific factors on mercury (P-Hg) levels and antioxidant power (P-FRAP) in human plasma, 26 healthy donors were examined by a dentist, their plasma analyzed for Hg by atomic absorption spectrometry and for total antioxidant activity by FRAP method. Hg plasma concentration was found to be correlated with the number of amalgam fillings, suggesting that Hg released from fillings is a source of Hg in non-occupational exposed subjects. P-FRAP correlated negatively with P-Hg suggesting a pro-oxidant role of the Hg released from amalgam fillings.

Effects of Nd: YAG laser irradiation on the root canal wall dentin of human teeth: a SEM study.

The purpose of this study was to observe the morphological and histological changes on the root canal walls after Nd:YAG laser application. Twenty vital, recently extracted single-rooted human teeth were used for this study. Root canals were cleaned and shaped by a conventional step-back technique--by means of k files up to a 20 k-file type at working length--and subsequently shaped by Ni-Ti root-canal rotary instrumentation up to 30/06 and irrigated with 2.

The major goal of endodontic therapy has been achieved by condensing filling materials into the root canal. It is not uncommon to find excess material in the periapical tissue. It therefore becomes obligatory to use filling materials that have acceptable biocompatibility.

Behaviour of adenylic and pyridinic compounds in gingival tissue after a short-term exposure to air.

Biochemical variations of adenine and pyridine compounds in human gingival grafts during the period between excision and implantation have been studied. These groups of compounds are considered as "indicators" of the metabolic and energetic status of the living cells. Adenylic compounds such as ATP, ADP and AMP are involved in numerous metabolic processes as "modulators" of allosteric enzymes.

Non specific acid esterase activity in human periapical inflammatory cells.

The fine structural localization of non specific acid alpha-naphthyl acetate esterase activity (ANAE) in human periapical inflammatory cells was studied in sections of paraffin embedded tissue of 20 human periapical lesions (granulomas). Examination of specimens incubated with ANAE resulted in ANAE+ cells interpreted as T-lymphocytes, monocytes, macrophages, giant cells and plasma cells. ANAE- lymphocytes were interpreted as B cells.
