DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) are among the deleterious lesions that are both endogenous and exogenous in origin and are repaired by nonhomologous end joining or homologous recombination. However, the molecular mechanisms responsible for maintaining genome stability remain incompletely understood. Here, we investigate the role of two E3 ligases, Dma1 and Dma2 (homologs of human RNF8), in the maintenance of genome stability in budding yeast.
