Pathogenic mechanisms and etiologic aspects of subspecies as an infectious cause of cutaneous melanoma.

Infectious etiologies have previously been proposed as causes of both melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer. This exploratory overview explains and presents the evidence for the hypothesis that a microorganism excreted in infected ruminant animal feces, subspecies (MAP), is the cause of some cases of cutaneous melanoma (CM). Occupational, residential, and recreational contact with MAP-contaminated feces, soil, sand, and natural bodies of water may confer a higher rate of CM.

A Quality Improvement Initiative for Detection of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder in an Urban, Academic Safety Net Hospital.

Objective: Improve detection of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in a safety net, hospital-based, academic pediatric practice by optimizing screening with the Pediatric Symptom Checklist attention score (PSC-AS) and further evaluation with the Vanderbilt ADHD Diagnostic Rating Scale (VADRS).

Methods: We implemented a multi-component intervention by (1) optimizing electronic medical record (EMR) features; (2) adjusting clinic operational workflow; and (3) creating a decision-making algorithm for pediatric primary care clinicians (PPCCs). We extracted 4 outcomes manually from the EMR (pediatrician acknowledgment of a positive PSC-AS, documentation of a plan for further evaluation, distribution of VADRS, and completion of at least 1 VADRS).

Assessment of seizure duration and utility of using SedLine EEG tracing in veterans undergoing electroconvulsive therapy: a retrospective analysis.

Background: Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) endures as a definitive treatment for refractory depression and catatonia and is also considered an effective treatment for a number of other severe psychiatric disorders (Lisanby, N Engl J Med 357:1939-1945, 2007)(Weiner and Prudic, Biol Psychiatry 73:105-106, 2013). GA is an essential component of the ECT procedure for various reasons (Lee, Jenkins and Sparkle, Life 11, 2021). Monitoring anesthetic effects on the brain is desirable as anesthetic agents affect seizure duration and recovery (Rasulo, Hopkins, Lobo, et al,  Neurocrit Care 38:296-311, 2023) (Jones , Nittur , Fleming and Applegate,  BMC Anesthesiol 21:105, 2021) (Soehle , Kayser , Ellerkmann and Schlaepfer,  BJA 112:695-702, 2013).

Risk Factors for Contralateral ACL Injury: A Single Institution Case-Control Study.

Our purpose was to evaluate if there is any association between requiring contralateral anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction and various: (1) demographics, (2) patient characteristics, and (3) surgery-specific factors. A prospectively collected database at a single institution was queried to find all patients who underwent primary ACL reconstruction between 2012 and 2014. We identified 312 primary ACL reconstruction patients with a mean age of 24 years and a mean follow-up of 3 years (range, 2-5 years).
