Article Synopsis
  • - Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is a rare and serious heart condition often occurring during or after pregnancy; this study assessed its outcomes in North Africa over a 12-year period from 2010 to 2022.
  • - Out of 27 PPCM patients studied, most presented symptoms like severe dyspnea and had a low average heart function measurement (LVEF of 30%); complications included pulmonary edema (85%) and the need for ECMO support in two patients.
  • - The follow-up revealed that 67% of patients showed recovery in heart function, but the overall mortality rate was 15%, with significant mortality associated with factors like past pregnancies and poor prenatal care.

Background: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is the most frequent endocrine disorder that affects reproductive-age women with important long-term health implications. As such, the anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) was proposed as a helpful test to identify women with PCOS. The aim of this study was to determine an AMH cut-off value for the diagnosis of PCOS.

This work aimed to explore the expression pattern of circulating miR-199a-3p, miR-21-5p and miR-let7i-3p in infertile women with dysregulated AMH levels. Quantitative real-time PCR was used to measure miR-199a-3p, miR-21-5p, and miR-let7i-3p expression levels in 60 plasma samples of infertile women with low or high AMH levels. Bioinformatic analyses for microRNAs predicting target genes and molecular pathways were performed according to gene ontology (GO) analysis and KEGG pathways.

Article Synopsis
  • Miscarriage is a common pregnancy issue, and this study aimed to explore how zoonotic bacteria and genital pathogens might be linked to miscarriages in women.
  • The research involved analyzing samples from 132 women with miscarriages and 54 women with healthy pregnancies to detect various bacteria through culture and real-time PCR.
  • Results indicated that certain pathogens like Chlamydia trachomatis and Mycoplasma hominis were more prevalent in women who experienced miscarriages, but further research is needed to fully understand these connections and the high seroprevalence of Waddlia chondrophila in early miscarriages.
