The interaction between the neuroendocrine system and the immune system plays a key role in the onset and progression of various diseases. Neuropeptides, recognized as common biochemical mediators of communication between these systems, are receiving increasing attention because of their potential therapeutic applications in immune-related disorders. Additionally, many neuropeptides share significant similarities with antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), and evidence shows that these antimicrobial neuropeptides are directly involved in innate immunity.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic relapsing dermatosis that demands new therapies. This research group previously developed a physically extracted adipose-derived extracellular matrix named adipose collagen fragments (ACF), which was determined containing massive adipose matrix-bound adipokines and medicable on AD through intradermal injection. However, problems concerning the control of drug release and inevitable pain caused by injection hinder the application of ACF in clinics.

The inherent risks of fluid leakage, combustion, and explosive reactions constitute major impediments to the widespread commercial deployment of lithium battery technologies. To solve these problems, solid-state electrolytes presenting the advantages of non-leakage, good thermal stability, non-volatilization, low spontaneous combustion or explosion risk have been proposed. However, one of the key issues for solid electrolytes is the ultra-low ionic conductivity.

The defense mechanisms of the vertebrate brain against infections are at the forefront of immunological studies. Unlike other body parts, the brain not only fends off pathogenic infections but also minimizes the risk of self-damage from immune cell induced inflammation. Some neuropeptides produced by either nerve or immune cells share remarkable similarities with antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) in terms of size, structure, amino acid composition, amphiphilicity, and net cationic charge.

Tardigrades are captivating organisms known for their resilience in extreme environments, including ultra-high-dose radiation, but the underlying mechanisms of this resilience remain largely unknown. Using genome, transcriptome, and proteome analysis of , we explored the molecular basis contributing to radiotolerance in this organism. A putatively horizontally transferred gene, DOPA dioxygenase 1 (), responds to radiation and confers radiotolerance by synthesizing betalains-a type of plant pigment with free radical-scavenging properties.

Article Synopsis
  • Randomized controlled trials have shown that combining immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) with chemotherapy is beneficial for treating early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
  • A systematic literature search led to the inclusion of 8 studies in a meta-analysis, which involved 3699 operable NSCLC patients at stages I-III.
  • The results indicated that perioperative immunotherapy outperformed chemotherapy alone, with toripalimab combined with chemotherapy providing the best outcomes in event-free survival, while Nivolumab combined with chemotherapy showed the most significant improvement in overall survival.

Background: A multitude of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) conducted in both the initial and subsequent treatment settings for patients diagnosed with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) have provided clinical evidence supporting the efficacy of immunotherapy with the use of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). In light of these findings, the U.S.

Xenotransplantation of acellular adipose matrix (AAM) has come to prominence as an intriguing option for soft tissue reconstruction. However, the presence of immunogenic antigens within AAM can trigger unfavorable immune reactions, leading to inadequate regeneration outcomes. Therefore, the development of advanced technology capable of modulating immune responses is crucial for the therapeutic implementation of AAM xenografts.

Background: In plastic surgery tissue transplantation, tissue ischemia limits transplanted tissue survival. Adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) and stromal vascular fraction (SVF) show potential for promoting angiogenesis and rescuing ischemic conditions. However, when SVF and ASC suspensions are utilized without the protection of extracellular matrix, the retention rate of transplanted cells tends to be diminished, leading to an unsatisfactory therapeutic outcome.

Excessive intake of fat and fructose in Western diets has been confirmed to induce renal lipotoxicity, thereby driving the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD). This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of magnoflorine in a CKD mouse model subjected to high-fat and high-fructose diets. Our results demonstrated that magnoflorine treatment ameliorated abnormal renal function indices (serum creatinine, urea nitrogen, uric acid, and urine protein) in high-fat- and high-fructose-fed mice.

Prednisone, a widely used glucocorticoid drug in human and veterinary medicine, has been reported to cause developmental toxicity. However, systematic studies about the effect of prednisone on fetal liver development are still unclear. We investigated the potential effects of maternal exposure to clinically equivalent doses of prednisone during different gestational stages on cell proliferation and apoptosis, cell differentiation, glucose and lipid metabolism, and hematopoiesis in the liver of fetal mice, and explored the potential mechanisms.

Prenatal dexamethasone exposure (PDE) can lead to increased susceptibility to various diseases in adult offspring, but its effect on gut microbiota composition and the relationship with disease susceptibility remains unclear. In this study, we find sex-differential changes in the gut microbiota of 6-month-old infants with prenatal dexamethasone therapy (PDT) that persisted in female infants up to 2.5 years of age with altered bile acid metabolism.
