Paclitaxel (PTX) is a first-line chemotherapeutic drug for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) but it can induce indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) activation, which severely lowers down its immuno-chemotherapeutic effect. To address this issue, a smart peptide hydrogelator Nap-Phe-Phe-Phe-Lys-Ser-Thr-Gly-Gly-Lys-Ala-Pro-Arg-OH (Nap-T), which co-assembles with PTX and an IDO inhibitor GDC0919 to form a hydrogel GP@Gel Nap-T, is rationally designed. Upon specific phosphorylation by pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2), an overexpressed biomarker of NSCLC, Nap-T is gradually converted to Nap-Phe-Phe-Phe-Lys-Ser-Thr(HPO)-Gly-Gly-Lys-Ala-Pro-Arg-OH (Nap-Tp), leading to dehydrogelation and sustained release of PTX and GDC0919 within NSCLC tissues.

Methods: In this study, we conducted two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) to estimate the causal effect of BC (overall BC, ER+ BC, ER- BC) from the Breast Cancer Association Consortium (BCAC) on CVD including coronary heart disease (CHD), hypertensive heart disease (HHD), ischaemic heart disease (IHD), and heart failure (HF) from the FinnGen consortium.

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are most likely the main cause of lung cancer formation, metastasis, drug resistance, and genetic heterogeneity. Three-dimensional (3D) ex vivo cell culture models can facilitate stemness improvement and CSC enrichment. Considering the critical role of extracellular matrix (ECM) on CSC properties, the present study developed a thermo-responsive hydrogel using the porcine decellularized lung for 3D cell culture, and the cell-laden hydrogel culturing model was used to explore the CSC characteristics and potential utilization in CSC-specific drug evaluation.

Bu-Shen-Huo-Xue-Fang (BSHXF), a traditional Chinese medicine decoction, has been used to treat IDD in clinical; nevertheless, the active components and underlying molecular mechanisms remain unknown. Identifying the contamination and sources of potentially toxic elements (PTEs) in road-dust sediment (RDS) and the surrounding greenspace soil of urban environments and understanding their ecological-health risks are important for pollution management and public health. The contamination characteristics, ecological and probabilistic health risks, and source apportionment of eight PTEs (Cd, Pb, Cr, Cu, Ni, As, Zn, and Hg) in the Yellow River Custom Tourist Line of Lanzhou, which is the largest open urban riverfront scenic park in China, were investigated. The results showed that all the RDS PTE mean concentrations exceeded their soil background values, whereas for the surrounding greenspace soils, the concentrations of the PTEs, except for Cr and Ni, were also higher than their local background levels.

In order to investigate the contamination characteristics and potential sources of heavy metals from the urban river surface sediments in the Yellow River Basin, we selected the Lanzhou reach of the Yellow River as the object of investigation. A total of 46 surface sediment samples were collected along the Lanzhou reach of the Yellow River, and the contents of eight heavy metals, Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Cd, Hg, and Pb, were determined by using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry and an atomic fluorescence spectrometer. Contamination indexes including single factor pollution index () and geo-accumulation index (), together with the sediment pollution index (SPI), were used to assess heavy metal pollution characteristics and ecological risk levels in the urban river surface sediments of the Lanzhou reach of the Yellow River.
