Residents tend to close the doors and windows of their residential kitchens in severe cold conditions, making insufficient outdoor air supply and aggravating indoor air pollution. In order to understand the ventilation and pollution status of the residential kitchens in a severe cold region and improve the ventilation system, this study used questionnaires, on-site tests, and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation to analyze a pollution and ventilation case in Shenyang, China. The method of using ceiling openings to compensate for outdoor air supply was proposed and optimized to improve air distribution in the residential kitchen.

We investigate theoretically the quantum transport properties of a twisted bilayer copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) molecular device, in which the bottom-layer CuPc molecule is connected to V-shaped zigzag-edged graphene nanoribbon electrodes. Based on a non-equilibrium Green's function approach in combination with density-functional theory, we find that the twist angle effectively modulates the electron interaction between the bilayer CuPc molecules. HOMO (highest occupied molecular orbital)-LUMO (lowest unoccupied molecular orbital) gap, spin filtering efficiency (SFE) and spin-dependent conductance of the bilayer CuPc molecular device could be modulated by changing the twist angle.

In this paper, a near-ideal subthreshold swing MoS back-gate transistor with an optimized ultrathin HfO dielectric layer is reported with detailed physical and electrical characteristics analyses. Ultrathin (10 nm) HfO films created by atomic-layer deposition (ALD) at a low temperature with rapid-thermal annealing (RTA) at different temperatures from 200 °C to 800 °C have a great effect on the electrical characteristics, such as the subthreshold swing (SS), on-to-off current (I /I ) ratio, etc, of the MoS devices. Organic phase change material (PCM) with macro-encapsulation is attractive in energy storage applications as it has relatively low cost. This study focuses on using PET plastic pipes to encapsulate paraffin and using low-cost float stones to increase the thermal conductivity of PCM modules as they have a special structure of high porosity. Float stones were immersed in the liquid PCM and an ultrasonic welding method used to prevent leakage of the PET plastic pipes.

GPR103 plays an important role in various tissues, while little information is available about the alternative splicing (AS) of its mRNA. In the present study, we used genomic PCR to identify the partial genomic locus of goose (Anser cygnoides) GPR103 and rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE)-PCR to identify five GPR103 variants, including the full-length variant (aGPR103-n) and four alternatively spliced variants (aGPR103-va, -vb, -vc and -vd). Sequence analysis showed that aGPR103-va and -vd are less likely to undergo nonsense-mediated mRNA decay, suggesting that they may be translated into truncated proteins.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of linearly polarized near-infrared irradiation (Super Lizer) combined with aerothermotherapy in the treatment of patients with frozen shoulder and diabetes.

Methods: Eighty-four diabetic patients with frozen shoulder were randomized into 3 groups to receive a 20-day treatment with drug therapy and shoulder exercise (control group), daily linearly polarized near-infrared irradiation in addition to the control therapy (Super Lizer group), or daily Super lizer and aerothermotherapy (S+P group) in addition to the control therapy. Visual analogue scale was used to assess the changes in the pain intensity, and the shoulder movement was assessed using shoulder movement disorder degree integral scores.

Myostatin (MSTN) plays a key role in the negative regulation of muscle growth and development during embryogenesis. The MSTN genes have different genetic characteristics in vertebrates: sole gene in mammals, gene duplication in fish, and alternative splicing in birds. To investigate the alternative splicing sites and developmental expression patterns of the duck MSTN genes, the mRNA and genome sequences were cloned, and the expression patterns were detected during breast muscle and leg muscle development by real-time PCR.
