Objective: This study aimed to explore the mechanism and gender effect of socioeconomic status on the relationship between marital quality and depression among the older adults, with the intention of providing a practical foundation for enhancing the quality of life of the older adults.

Methods: The data sourced from the third (conducted in 2015, denoted as the first survey) and fourth (carried out in 2018, regarded as the second survey) installments of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Survey (CHARLS) were meticulously analyzed through the utilization of cross-lagged analytical techniques and moderating effect examination methodologies.

Results: Among the older adults, there exists a reciprocal causal relationship between marital quality and the level of depression.

Cerebrovascular endothelial cell (EC) subtypes characterized by blood-brain barrier (BBB) properties or fenestrated pores are essential components of brain-blood interfaces, supporting brain function and homeostasis. To date, the origins and developmental mechanisms underlying this heterogeneous EC network remain largely unclear. Using single-cell-resolution lineage tracing in zebrafish, we discover a multipotent vascular niche at embryonic capillary borders that generates ECs with BBB or fenestrated molecular identity.

A qualitative study on general practitioners' perspectives on late-life depression in Singapore-part II: system- and physician-related factors.

Background: Little is known about the practices and resources employed by general practitioners (GPs) in Singapore to manage late-life depression. As the country is stepping up its efforts to promote collaborative care across community mental health and geriatric care, understanding GPs' current practices when managing late-life depression appears timely.

Methods: This qualitative descriptive study explored the perspectives on late-life depression of 28 private GPs practicing in Singapore through online semi-structured group and individual interviews.

Introduction: Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory condition of the colon driven by aberrant immune activation. Although advanced medical therapies form the cornerstone of ulcerative colitis management, unmet needs include failure to induce and sustain remission in a substantial proportion of patients and in managing acute severe ulcerative colitis. We review new treatment strategies that might improve patient outcomes in the management of moderate-to-severe ulcerative colitis.

Host innate antiviral response is the first line of defense against IAV infection, and the transcription factor, the signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3), has emerged as a critical component of this response.

Robot-Assisted CT-guided Biopsy with an Artificial Intelligence-Based Needle-Path Generator: An Experimental Evaluation Using a Phantom Model.

Purpose: To investigate the feasibility of a robotic system with artificial intelligence-based lesion detection and path planning for CT-guided biopsy, compared to the conventional freehand technique.

Materials And Methods: Eight nodules within an abdominal phantom, incorporating the simulated vertebrae and ribs, were designated as targets. A robotic system was used for lesion detection, trajectory generation, and needle-holder positioning.

Combined Anteversion in Healthy Hips: Should there be a single implant alignment target in total hip arthroplasty?

Background: The ideal anteversion at which the acetabular and femoral components for a total hip arthroplasty (THA) should be implanted is still a subject of debate. One alignment philosophy being explored is restoration of individual constitutional femoral and acetabular anteversion. This study aimed to measure combined anteversion in a healthy hip population and understand the expected phenotypes and ranges for constitutional hip alignment.

The association between pain, analgesia, and delirium among critically ill adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Purpose: We performed a systematic review with meta-analysis examining the relationship between pain or pain medications and delirium occurence, duration, and severity.

Methods: We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials from inception to May 15, 2023. We included randomised or observational studies among critically ill adults, that reported data on pain or exposure to analgesics, and reported delirium presence, duration, or severity with no language or region restrictions.

High astrovirus diversity in an endemic bat species suggests multiple spillovers from synanthropic rodents and birds.

Beyond the role of bats as natural host reservoirs of infectious agents, the impact of viral spillover from other animal species to bats has been neglected. Given the limited virus-host specificity of astroviruses (AstVs) and their propensity for cross-species transmission, we hypothesized that AstVs could be transmitted within animal communities (rodents, birds, and bats) and that native endemic bats may be exposed to viruses hosted by other species. We investigated the presence of AstV RNA in 3,796 biological samples collected in Reunion Island from ( = 3421), an endemic free-tailed bat species, and also from small terrestrial mammals and birds: ( = 146), ( = 74), ( = 36), ( = 99), and ( = 20).

Assessment of blended learning palliative care educational programme in cancer treatment centres in India.

Objectives: The study evaluates the fifth cohort of the palliative care cancer treatment centres (CTC) educational programme in India with the aim of refining the course on the basis of participant feedback thereby improving palliative care services at cancer centres.

Methods: The intervention included participation in the CTC 5 teaching and training programme, which encompassed foundation course, refresher course, access to palliative care training modules, clinical training and mentorship under palliative care experts. The feedback was taken from all 57 participants (29 doctors and 28 nurses) of CTC 5 programme representing 14 hospitals across nine regions in India.

This review explores the evolution, mechanisms, and clinical applications of immunonutrition, with a focus on essential nutrients, such as omega-3 fatty acids, glutamine, arginine, and vitamins. These immunonutrients modulate immune responses, reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines, and support tissue repair.

A novel surgical technique of use of the Goligher self-retaining retractor for microvascular anastomosis in reconstruction after minimally invasive mastectomy.

In recent years, minimally invasive breast surgery (MIBS) has revolutionized breast cancer treatment, allowing for preservation of aesthetic outcomes while ensuring oncological safety. However, this has created a new challenge in maintaining optimal visualization and dexterity during microvascular anastomosis which is critical for successful autologous tissue reconstruction. Traditional retractors often limit maneuverability, potentially impacting the outcomes of anastomotic procedures.

Epigenetic Control of Redox Pathways in Cancer Progression.

Growing evidence indicates the importance of redox reactions homeostasis, mediated predominantly by reactive oxygen species (ROS) in influencing the development, differentiation, progression, metastasis, programmed cell death, tumor microenvironment, and therapeutic resistance of cancer. Therefore, reviewing the ROS-linked epigenetic changes in cancer is fundamental to understanding the progression and prevention of cancer. We review in depth the molecular mechanisms involved in ROS-mediated epigenetic changes that lead to alteration of gene expression by altering DNA, modifying histones, and remodeling chromatin and noncoding RNA.

Neural decoding reveals dynamic patterns of visual chunk memory processes.

Chunk memory constitutes the basic unit that manages long-term memory and converts it into immediate decision-making processes, it remains unclear how to interpret and organize incoming information to form effective chunk memory. This paper investigates electroencephalography (EEG) patterns from the perspective of time-domain feature extraction using chunk memory in visual statistical learning and combines time-resolved multivariate pattern analysis (MVPA). The GFP and MVPA results revealed that chunk memory processes occurred during specific time windows in the learning phase.

Vedolizumab serum trough concentrations with and without thiopurines in ulcerative colitis: The prospective VIEWS pharmacokinetics study.

Background: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory condition requiring continuous treatment and monitoring. There is limited pharmacokinetic data on vedolizumab during maintenance therapy and the effect of thiopurines on vedolizumab trough concentrations is unknown.

Aim: To investigate the exposure-response relationship of vedolizumab and the impact of thiopurine withdrawal in UC patients who have achieved sustained clinical and endoscopic remission during maintenance therapy.

Exploring the General Acceptability and User Experience of a Digital Therapeutic for Cognitive Training in a Singaporean Older Adult Population: Qualitative Study.

Background: Singapore's large aging population poses significant challenges for the health care system in managing cognitive decline, underscoring the importance of identifying and implementing effective interventions. Cognitive training delivered remotely as a digital therapeutic (DTx) may serve as a scalable and accessible approach to overcoming these challenges. While previous studies indicate the potential of cognitive training as a promising solution for managing cognitive decline, understanding the attitudes and experiences of older adults toward using such DTx platforms remains relatively unexplored.
