Objective To evaluate the effects of total intravenous anesthesia on the circadian rhythms in the patients undergoing cardiac transcatheter closure. Methods Thirty patients undergoing cardiac transcatheter closure under elective intravenous anesthesia were included in this study.Paired -tests were performed to compare the mRNA levels of the genes encoding circadian locomotor output cycles kaput(CLOCK),brain and muscle ARNT-1 like protein-1(BMAL1),cryptochrome 1(CRY1),and period circadian clock 2(PER2),the Munich Chronotype Questionnaire(MCTQ)score, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)score before and after anesthesia.

Article Synopsis
  • About 60% of children experience severe anxiety before undergoing anaesthesia, which can lead to negative outcomes; various sedatives are used as premedication to help manage this anxiety, but there is no agreed-upon best option for pre-anaesthetic sedation in young children prior to surgery.
  • The study conducted a network meta-analysis of 48 randomized clinical trials to compare the effectiveness of sedatives like dexmedetomidine, midazolam, clonidine, ketamine, and melatonin, measuring outcomes like satisfactory sedation and side effects.
  • The findings indicated that dexmedetomidine, midazolam, clonidine, and ketamine were more effective than placebo for sedation during parent

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers created new gemini imidazolium surfactants using various aliphatic acids and confirmed their structures with techniques like (1)H NMR and IR spectroscopy.
  • They studied the thermal properties and determined the critical micelle concentrations (cmc), finding that these surfactants significantly lower water surface tension.
  • Dynamic light scattering (DLS) showed that certain surfactants can form vesicles at low concentrations and that their self-assembly behavior varies, indicating a dynamic equilibrium between micelles and vesicles in solution.
