Pyrene aggregates, as classic luminescent materials, are of great interest from a scientific viewpoint owing to the development of optoelectronic materials. In this study, we designed a compound 1,4,5-triphenyl-2-(pyren-1-yl)-4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazole (IM-PY) which was achieved with two crystalline polymorphs (IMPY-G and IMPY-B). They exhibit the green emission and the blue emission, respectively, both with pyrene serving as the luminescent core.

The positive relationship between species richness and area is a fundamental principle in ecology. However, this pattern deviates on small islands, where species richness either changes independently of area or increases at a slower rate-a phenomenon known as the Small-Island Effect (SIE). While the SIE has been well documented in natural ecosystem, its presence in highly fragmented and disturbed urban ecosystem remains unexplored, posing challenges for urban vegetation conservation.

Antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) are emerging as significant environmental contaminants, posing potential health risks worldwide. Intensive livestock farming, particularly swine production, is a primary contributor to the escalation of ARG pollution. In this study, we employed metagenomic sequencing and quantitative polymerase chain reaction to analyze the composition of microorganisms and ARGs across four vectors in a typical swine fattening facility: dung, soil, airborne particulate matter (PM), and fodder.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are lipid bilayer nanoparticles released from all known cells and are involved in cell-to-cell communication via their molecular content. EVs have been found in all tissues and body fluids, carrying a variety of biomolecules, including DNA, RNA, proteins, metabolites, and lipids, offering insights into cellular and pathophysiological conditions. Despite the emergence of EVs and their molecular contents as important biological indicators, it remains difficult to explore EV-mediated biological processes due to their small size and heterogeneity and the technical challenges in characterizing their molecular content.

Colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) are attractive gain media due to their wavelength-tunability and low optical gain threshold. Consequently, CQD lasers, especially the surface-emitting ones, are promising candidates for display, sensing and communication. However, it remains challenging to achieve a low-threshold surface-emitting CQD laser array with high stability and integration density.

The inherent trade-off between permeability and selectivity has constrained further improvement of passive linear force-electric conversion performance in nanofluidic pressure sensors. To overcome this limitation, a 3D nanofluidic membrane with high mechanical strength utilizing aramid nanofibers/carbon nanofiber (ANF/CNF) dual crosslinking is developed. Due to the abundant surface functional groups of CNF and the high mechanical strength of ANF, this large-scale integrated 3D nanofluidic membrane exhibits advantages of high flux, high porosity, and short ion transport path, demonstrating superior force-electric response compared to conventional 1D and 2D configurations.

  • Atomic iodine ionization in perovskite crystals causes defects and strain, which negatively impacts electronic properties and device performance.
  • The study introduces a new iodine stabilization method using [2,2]-paracyclophane, which reduces internal stress and enhances the electrical properties of perovskite films.
  • This approach led to improved device efficiency, increasing from 23.93% to 25.26%, and showed better stability, with the stabilized device retaining 85% efficiency after 1000 hours of exposure, compared to only 57% for the control.

Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) is a significant pathogen affecting swine, causing severe economic losses worldwide. This study explores the regulatory role of miRNA-328-3p to ZO-1 expression and its impact on PEDV proliferation via the PLC-β1-PKC pathway in IPEC-J2 cells. We found that miRNA-328-3p can target ZO-1, influencing its expression and subsequently affecting the integrity of tight junctions in the cells.

Angiogenesis describes the sprouting of blood vessels from existing vasculatures and it plays a pivotal role in disease progress such as diabetes, age-related macular degeneration and cancer. However, the most widely used anti-angiogenic agents targeting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) pathway still lacked of specificity and therapeutic efficacy. To establish a method suitable for high-throughput drug screening and faithfully recapitulate the feature of in vivo angiogenesis, we generated a PECAM1-mRuby3-secNluc; ACTA2-EGFP dual reporter human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC) line and utilizing the cell line to establish a visualized and quantifiable in vitro angiogenesis model with stem cell-derived vascular organoid.

As one of the core parts of the Internet-of-things (IOTs), multimodal sensors have exhibited great advantages in fields such as human-machine interaction, electronic skin, and environmental monitoring. However, current multimodal sensors substantially introduce a bloated equipment architecture and a complicated decoupling mechanism. In this work we propose a multimodal fusion sensing platform based on a power-dependent piecewise linear decoupling mechanism, allowing four parameters to be perceived and decoded from the passive wireless single component, which greatly broadens the configurable freedom of a sensor in the IOT.

Borenium ions have attracted significant attention in organic transformations due to their strong Lewis acidity. The reported borenium ions are often stabilized by sterically demanding substituents and strong coordination bonds. Herein, we have synthesized a small steric borenium-equivalent NHBHOTf and subjected it to the exhaustive reduction of a carboxylic functional group to a methyl group, which shows broad functional group tolerance.

In response to stressors, individuals manifest varied behavioral responses directed toward satisfying physiological survival needs. Although the enduring effects of adolescent stress on both humans and animals are well-documented, the underlying mechanisms remain insufficiently elucidated. Utilizing immunofluorescence, viral injections, and brain slice electrophysiological recordings, we have delineated that heightened excitability among glutamatergic neurons in the basolateral amygdala (BLA) is responsible for inducing heightened exploratory behaviors in adolescent mice subjected to mild, chronic restraint stress.
