Barriers to Education for Children With Neurodisabilities in a Developing Country.

Despite having equal rights to education, children with neurodisability (CWND) continue to face a myriad of barriers to education. This cross-sectional survey aimed to investigate the barriers to education among CWND who attended follow-up at a Malaysian tertiary hospital. Sixty-two caregivers of CWND completed a questionnaire which included the 'Washington Group/United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Child Functioning Module', type of schooling and open-ended questions for barriers to education.

The association between hepatitis B virus and semen quality: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Some studies have suggested that hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection had a negative association with semen quality, but the conclusions have been inconsistent. The purpose of our study was to systematically assess the association between HBV infection and semen parameters.

Methods: We searched electronic databases for studies published from January 1980 to August 2023.

Exercise addiction refers to maladaptive exercise patterns involving compulsivity and addiction-like behaviors. Exercise addiction has been found to relate to negative physical and mental health outcomes such as heart abnormalities, physical injuries, and interpersonal conflicts. Based on the social cognitive theory, this study investigated the extent to which the interplay of obsessive compulsive personality disorder (OCPD) traits and self-efficacy beliefs would influence the development and maintenance of exercise addiction.

Establishment and validation of a polygene prognostic model for clear cell renal cell carcinoma.

To establish an effective prognostic model for patients with clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). We identified four hub differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database and verified them in the Cancer Gene Atlas (TCGA), STRING, UALCAN, TIMER, and Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA) databases. We then used TCGA and International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) to identify tumor pathway molecules highly correlated with hub DEGs.

Here, we designed a facile method that upcycles Ag extract efficiently from waste film into highly dispersed value-added biological Ag/AgO-AgCl nanoparticles (bio-Ag/AgO-AgCl NPs) using Bacillus thuringiensis-secreted extracellular polymeric substance without additional reductants and electron donors. The recovery efficiency of silver exceeded 99.

Clinical outcomes after ABO-incompatible liver transplantation: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Prognostic Roles of N6-Methyladenosine METTL3 in Different Cancers: A System Review and Meta-Analysis.

Background: Recent studies have shown that methyltransferase-like 3, a catalytic enzyme that is predominant in the N6-methyladenosine methyltransferase system, is abnormally expressed in various types of carcinoma and is correlated with poorer prognosis. However, the clinical functions of methyltransferase-like 3 in the prognosis of tumors are not fully understood.

Methods: We identified studies by searching PubMed, Web of Science, and MedRvix for literature (up to June 30, 2020), and collected a total of 9 studies with 1257 patients for this meta-analysis.

Effects of Visual Attentional Load on the Tactile Sensory Memory Indexed by Somatosensory Mismatch Negativity.

Auditory sensory memory indexed by mismatch negativity has been broadly studied over the past century, but far less attention has been directed to tactile sensory memory. To investigate whether tactile sensory memory is affected by attention, we recorded somatosensory mismatch negativity (sMMN) from 24 healthy adults in two experiments to distinguish sustained attention from non-sustained attention. Using the roving somatosensory oddball paradigm, we analyzed the average dynamic changes in the amplitude and latency of sMMN amplitude and found a clear sMMN component at the central region at a 100-300 ms interval.

Acute decompensated heart failure in a non cardiology tertiary referral centre, Sarawak General Hospital (SGH-HF).

Background: Data on clinical characteristics of acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) in Malaysia especially in East Malaysia is lacking.

Methods: This is a prospective observational study in Sarawak General Hospital, Medical Department, from October 2017 to September 2018. Patients with primary admission diagnosis of ADHF were recruited and followed up for 90 days.

Sibling Violence and Psychological Adjustment: The Role of Maladaptive Coping and Maternal Authoritativeness.

This study examined the phenomenon of sibling violence in Singapore. The underlying mechanisms through which maternal authoritativeness and maladaptive coping influenced psychological adjustment following sibling violence were also investigated. Questionnaires were administered to 287 female and 128 male Singaporean college students between the ages of 18 to 27.

Antibody immobilization on to polystyrene substrate--on-chip immunoassay for horse IgG based on fluorescence.

A simple microfluidic immunoassay card was developed based on polystyrene (PS) substrate for the detection of horse IgG, an inexpensive model analyte using fluorescence microscope. The primary antibody was captured onto the PS based on covalent bonding via a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) of thiol to pattern the surface chemistry on a gold-coated PS. The immunosensor chip layers were fabricated from sheets by CO(2) laser ablation.

On-chip detection of myoglobin based on fluorescence.

A disposable immunosensor cartridge was developed that allows antibodies to be immobilized on the surface for the detection of myoglobin, a marker for the early assessment of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) using fluorescence techniques. The anti-myoglobin antibody was immobilized on a polystyrene substrate based on covalent bonding via silanization. The immunosensor chip layers were fabricated from sheets by CO(2)-laser ablation.

LRRC4 inhibits glioblastoma cell proliferation, migration, and angiogenesis by downregulating pleiotropic cytokine expression and responses.

Leucine-rich repeat C4 (LRRC4) has been shown to inhibit glioma cell proliferation, however, little is known about the mechanism(s) underlying the action of LRRC4. Here, we show that two glioblstoma U251 cell clones stably expressing LRRC4 were established. LRRC4 expression significantly inhibited the expression of some cytokines and their receptors determined by microarray and Western blot assays, and dramatically reduced cytokine-induced AP-1, NF-kB, and CyclinD1 activation in glioma cells.

LRRC4 controls in vitro invasion of glioblastoma cells through inhibiting RPTP-zeta expression.

LRRC4 (leucine rich repeat containing 4), a novel member of LRP (Leucine-rich repeat protein) superfamily, contains a conserved leucine-rich repeat (LRR) cassette and an immunoglobulin-like (IgC2) domain in its extracellular region. In the present study, we demonstrated that the N and C terminal LRR (LRRNT and LRRCT) are requisite for membrane and cytoplasm location of LRRC4 in Cos7 cells. We also suggested that RPTP-zeta (receptor-type protein tyrosine phosphatase) receptor is relevant to the invasion ability of gliomas cells, and its expression is inhibited by the reexpression of LRRC4.

LRRC4, a putative tumor suppressor gene, requires a functional leucine-rich repeat cassette domain to inhibit proliferation of glioma cells in vitro by modulating the extracellular signal-regulated kinase/protein kinase B/nuclear factor-kappaB pathway.

We have previously reported that the LRRC4 gene, which contains a conserved leucine-rich repeat (LRR) cassette and an immunoglobulin (Ig) IgC2 domain, is associated with glioma suppression both in vitro and in vivo. The present study provides evidence that the conspicuous absence of LRRC4 in high-grade gliomas directly contributes to the increasing tumor grade. The loss of LRRC4 in U251 cells is caused by the loss of homozygosity at chromosome 7q32-ter.

Profiling of differentially expressed genes in LRRC4 overexpressed glioblastoma cells by cDNA array.

Our previous study has shown that LRRC4 is a novel member of the leucine-rich repeat (LRR) superfamily and has the potential to suppress brain tumor growth. In order to further analyze the functions of LRRC4 on the maintenance of normal function and suppression of tumorigenesis in the central nervous system, we investigated alterations in gene expression related to neurobiology by the Atlas array in two inducible dual-stable LRRC4-overexpressing cell lines. Seventeen of 588 genes spotted on the Atlas membrane showed altered expression levels in LRRC4 transfected U251MG Tet-on cells, which are involved in cell proliferation and cell cycle progression, tumor invasion and metastasis, and neurotransmitter synthesis and release.
