Objective: Endoscopic laryngopharyngeal surgery (ELPS) is an effective and minimally invasive treatment for pharyngeal cancers. However, the disadvantages of ELPS are the interference of instruments in the operative field and the difficulty in approaching certain areas. To overcome these drawbacks, we began to perform combination treatment of ELPS and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD).

Dietary obesity is regarded as a problem worldwide, and it has been revealed the strong linkage between obesity and allergic inflammation. Fatty acid-binding protein 5 (FABP5) is expressed in lung cells, such as alveolar epithelial cells (ECs) and alveolar macrophages, and plays an important role in infectious lung inflammation. However, we do not know precise mechanisms on how lipid metabolic change in the lung affects allergic lung inflammation.

Here, to evaluate the utility of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) genotyping, we compare trial enrollment using ctDNA sequencing in 1,687 patients with advanced gastrointestinal (GI) cancer in SCRUM-Japan GOZILA (no. UMIN000016343), an observational ctDNA-based screening study, to enrollment using tumor tissue sequencing in the same centers and network (GI-SCREEN, 5,621 patients).

Evaluation of Dantrolene Granules Extemporaneously Reformulated from Capsules in a Pharmacy.

Dantrolene capsule, an effective therapeutic agent for the treatment of spasticity, is administered to children who cannot swallow the capsule after reformulation into a powder. The powdered drug can alter the specified dosage and it is also difficult to dispense the powdered formulation because of its bulky and sticky nature. To resolve these problems, we reformulated dantrolene capsules into granules using a centrifugal planetary mixer in the pharmacy.

Background: The feasibility of laparoscopic surgery for primary appendiceal tumors compared to that of open surgery has not been demonstrated to date because primary appendiceal tumors are rare. Lessons Learned: Panitumumab monotherapy showed favorable efficacy and feasibility in the treatment of frail or elderly patients with RAS wild-type unresectable colorectal cancer. It is especially effective for left-sided tumors; therefore, panitumumab as first-line treatment could be an additional therapeutic option for frail elderly patients, particularly in those who are unsuitable for upfront oxaliplatin-based or irinotecan-based combination regimens.

Background: First-line panitumumab monotherapy is expected to be well tolerated and improve survival in patients ineligible for intensive chemotherapy.

Fatty acid binding protein 7 (FABP7) is abundantly expressed in several types of glial cells, such as astrocytes and oligodendrocyte precursor cells, during brain development and FABP7-positive astrocytes have been shown to be significantly increased in the mouse cortex after a stab injury. However, the functional significance of FABP7 in gliosis remains unclear.

Purpose: Erlotinib, an inhibitor of the epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase, causes skin disorders such as dry skin, which impairs the skin barrier function. Stratum corneum (SC) lipids play an important role in skin barrier function; therefore, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between erlotinib-related dry skin and changes in the intercellular lipid composition and structure of the SC.

Methods: Overall, 21 patients with non-small lung cancer were enrolled in this study.

Background: Lung resection in patients with nontuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary disease (NTM-PD) has been reported to be associated with favorable outcomes. However, little is known regarding the risk and prognostic factors for refractory and recurrent cases. We aimed to evaluate the overall impact and benefit of adjuvant lung surgery by comparing NTM-PD patients who underwent adjuvant lung resection with those treated exclusively with antibiotics.

[Long-Term Survival in a Patient with Stage Ⅳ Gastric Cancer Successfully Treated with Multidisplinary Treatment].

A man in his 60s who had epigastric pain was referred to our hospital and diagnosed with advanced type 3 gastric cancer with multiple liver metastases, cT4acN2cN1(H1), cStage Ⅳ(HER2 3+). He underwent chemotherapy using capecitabine, cisplatin(CDDP), and trastuzumab(T-mab)(XPT). After 7 courses of XPT and 23 courses of XT, liver metastases disappeared, and we decided to perform open distal gastrectomy, D2+ #18 lymphadenectomy, and Billroth Ⅰ reconstruction as a conversion surgery.
