Background: Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction is a complex and heterogeneous clinical syndrome, poses significant diagnostic challenges. The HFA-PEFF [Heart Failure Association of ESC diagnostic algorithm, P (Pretest Assessment), E  (Echocardiographic and Natriuretic Peptide score), F1 (Functional testing in Case of Uncertainty), F2 (Final Aetiology)] and H2FPEF [Heavy (BMI>30 kg/m2), Hypertensive (use of ≥2 antihypertensive medications), atrial Fibrillation (paroxysmal or persistent), Pulmonary hypertension (Doppler Echocardiographic estimated Pulmonary Artery Systolic Pressure >35 mm Hg), Elderly (age >60 years), Filling pressure (Doppler Echocardiographic E/e' >9)] scoring systems were developed to aid in diagnosing heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. This study aimed to assess the concordance and clinical accuracy of these scoring systems in the 'A comPrehensive, ObservationaL registry of heart faiLure with mildly reduced and preserved ejection fractiON' cohort.

Background: Malnutrition is common in patients with advanced heart failure (HF), and both conditions have a poor prognosis.

Objectives: We sought to determine the predictive value of nutritional status using the prognostic nutritional index (PNI) for long-term mortality in patients with advanced HF.

Methods: This is a retrospective observational study.

Orthogonal-biplane imaging (X-plane) is relatively a new tooL and provides comprehensive information about mitral valve and left atrial appendage evaluation. On the other hand, X-plane method is a promising method in the diagnosis of semilunar valve pathologies. Below, we report 2 cases, in which X-plane method was used, in order to clarify diagnosis.

Purpose: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is related with structural and pathologic changes in the left atrium (LA) and left ventricle (LV). The aim of this study was to explore the association between LA mechanics and LV characteristics in patients with HCM using cardiac magnetic resonance feature tracking (CMR-FT).

Material And Methods: A total of 76 patients with HCM and 26 healthy controls were included in the study.

Transcatheter tricuspid valve-in-valve implantation is a critical option in high risk bioprosthetic tricuspid valve dysfunction. In this case report, balloon-expandable transcatheter heart valve was implanted successfully into the tricuspid valve and early thrombosis was managed successfully. ().

Purpose: In our study, we aimed to assess the role of acceleration time (AT), ejection time (ET), and AT/ET ratio to distinguish between true and pseudo severe AS in patients with classical low flow-low gradient (LF-LG) aortic stenosis (AS) with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF).

Methods: Sixty-seven classical LF-LG AS with reduced LVEF patients who underwent dobutamine stress echocardiography (DSE) were included in the study. According to DSE results, all patients were divided into two groups; true AS and pseudo severe AS.

Background: Using the tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE)/pulmonary arterial systolic pressure (PASP) ratio as an index of right ventricular load adaptability, we aimed to evaluate early changes in right heart contractile function of patients with group 1 pulmonary artery hypertension (PAH) after sequential combination PAH-specific therapy.

Methods: A total of 49 patients with group 1 PAH and 31 control participants were included in the study. The baseline clinical and echocardiographic data of the control and PAH group were compared.

We present an interesting case of concomitant congenital anomalies with an iatrogenic defect. The female patient underwent a percutaneous mitral balloon valvuloplasty due to rheumatic mitral stenosis. Unfortunately, an iatrogenic atrial septal defect (ASD) transpired during the procedure.

Background: The Appropriateness of Aspirin Use in Medical Outpatients: A Multicenter, Observational Study trial has been the largest study ever conducted among patients in Turkey regarding aspirin treatment. In the subgroup analysis of the hypertensive group of the Appropriateness of Aspirin Use in Medical Outpatients: A Multicenter, Observational Study trial, we aimed to evaluate the physicians' adherence to current guidelines regarding their aspirin treatment preferences.

Methods: The Appropriateness of Aspirin Use in Medical Outpatients: A Multicenter, Observational Study trial is a cross-sectional and multicenter study conducted among 5007 consecutive patients aged ≥18 years.

Objectives: Treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) with endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) has become quite common in recent years. This method, which has many advantages compared to the open surgical procedure, also has some complications. One of these complications is acute kidney injury (AKI).

Transcatheter device closure is a common treatment option of atrial septal defect. Mitral regurgitation has been reported with comorbid mitral valve prolapse and atrial septal defect. However there is no consensus regarding the pathogenesis of mitral regurgitation after closure.

Background: The prognostic value of C-reactive protein/albumin ratio (CAR) is of import in cardiovascular diseases. Our aim was to evaluate the impact of the CAR in patients with asymptomatic abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) undergoing endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR).

Material And Method: We retrospectively evaluated 127 consecutive patients who underwent technically successful elective EVAR procedure between December 2014 and September 2020.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluates the effectiveness of the Wilkins score (WS) and introduces a new scoring system based on 3D transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) for predicting the success of redo percutaneous balloon mitral valvuloplasty (PBMV).
  • Fifty patients were analyzed, and based on their post-procedural outcomes, a substantial 72% were deemed successful in the redo PBMV procedure.
  • The findings revealed no significant correlation between the traditional WS and procedural success, while the novel 3D TEE score showed a significant relationship, especially indicating a success rate of over 90% when the 3D score was below 4.

Tricuspid regurgitation (TR) can occur due to many etiologies, including primary valve disease, left heart disease, annular dilatation in atrial fibrillation, or pulmonary hypertension (PH). Functional TR is caused by tricuspid annular dilatation in the setting of right ventricular remodeling. The right ventricle (RV) ischemia is an overlooked cause of functional TR which tends to diminish with an improvement in right heart functions.

Background: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a severe, life-threatening disorder despite the availability of specific drug therapy. A lack of endogenous prostacyclin secondary to downregulation of prostacyclin synthase in PAH may contribute to vascular pathologies. Therefore, prostacyclin and its analogs including inhaled iloprost may decrease pulmonary arterial pressure and ventricular pressure.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to analyze and compare clinical characteristics of heart failure patients with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) who also have atrial fibrillation (AF) versus those without AF.
  • A total of 819 HFpEF patients were examined, with 38.2% having AF; these patients were generally older and exhibited more severe symptoms and higher hospitalization rates.
  • The findings indicated significant clinical differences between the two groups, suggesting the need for further research to understand the impact of AF on the prognosis of heart failure patients in Turkey.*

Objective: This study aimed to examine gender-based differences in epidemiology, clinical characteristics, and management of consecutive patients with heart failure with mid-range ejection fraction (HFmrEF) and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF).

Methods: The APOLLON trial (A comPrehensive, ObservationaL registry of heart faiLure with mid-range and preserved ejection fractiON) is a multicenter, cross-sectional, and observational study. Consecutive patients with HFmrEF or HFpEF who were admitted to the cardiology clinics were included (NCT03026114).
