Evaluating the Usability of a Remote Ischemic Conditioning Device for Pre-Hospital Stroke Management: Insights from Paramedic Simulations.

Background/objectives: In acute stroke, often-prolonged hospital transport times present an opportunity for early interventions to salvage brain tissue. Remote ischemic conditioning (RIC), where brief cycles of ischemia-reperfusion in a limb are induced to protect the brain, is a promising treatment for this setting. We assessed the usability of a novel RIC system in a simulated emergency response scenario.

Unintentional Tobacco Smoke Exposure in Children.

Secondhand smoke (SHS) exposure increases the prevalence and severity of sinopulmonary diseases in children. The primary source of SHS exposure in children is through adults who live in the same house; however, the level of exposure may vary based on the adult smoking habits at home. This prospective cross-sectional study in Alberta, Canada, investigated the relationship between self-reported caregiver smoking, location, outdoor temperature and children’s’ urine cotinine: creatinine ratio (CCR), a marker of nicotine metabolism.

Comparison of Publication of Pediatric Probiotic vs Antibiotic Trials Registered on ClinicalTrials.gov.

Importance: The published evidence in support of probiotic use is conflicting, which may be a result of selective publication of probiotic trials.

Objectives: To compare the proportion of registered trials that evaluate pediatric probiotics vs those that evaluate antibiotics that are published and to identify study-related factors associated with publication status.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This cross-sectional study evaluated eligible trials registered in ClinicalTrials.
