Introduction: Variants of COVID-19 are responsible for 700 million infections and 7 million deaths worldwide. Vaccinations have high efficiency in preventing infection and secondary benefits of reducing COVID-19 hospital admissions, attenuating disease severity and duration of illness. Conflicting reports were published regarding COVID-19 among PLWH.

Background: The prevalence of sesame allergy is increasing; strict avoidance is the mainstay of therapy. Lately, sesame oral immunotherapy was presented as an alternative treatment, with a high rate of success. Therefore, data on the natural history and the clinical characteristics of patients with persistent sesame allergy are important for the management of patients with sesame allergy.

We have previously shown that functional residual capacity (FRC) and lung clearance index were significantly greater in sleeping healthy infants when measured by N (nitrogen) washout using 100% O (oxygen) versus 4% SF (sulfur hexafluoride) washout using air. Following 100% O exposure, tidal volumes decreased by over 30%, while end-expiratory lung volume (EELV, i.e.

Aging is associated with altered decreased barrier function in the skin, which can lead to different types of immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated sensitization to environmental allergens. Yet, allergen-specific respiratory sensitization among the elderly is not well described. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of aging on allergic pulmonary inflammation induced by epicutaneous sensitization of mechanically irritated skin in mice.

The redox state of cellular exofacial molecules is reflected by the amount of available thiols. Furthermore, surface thiols can be considered as indicators of immune cell activation. One group of thiol containing proteins, peroxiredoxins, in particular, have been associated with inflammation.

Background: A decreased level of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) was previously described in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) of adults with interstitial lung diseases (ILD) due to bronchial epithelial cell apoptosis and its proteolytic degradation. Elevated intrapulmonary ferritin was produced by alveolar cells that promoted oxidative injury in such patients.

Objectives: In this study, we analyzed the concentrations of VEGF and ferritin in BALF samples of ILD children and studied the relationship between their levels and the degree of inflammation.

Background: In the management of chronic diseases, treatment approaches have changed in recent decades. Not only are clinical outcomes assessed but also the patients' perception of their quality of life has become an important aspect.

Objectives: The aim of our study was to compare the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of children with cystic fibrosis (CF) to the HRQoL of asthmatic patients, to assess the level of agreement between parent proxy-report and child self-report and to measure the relationship between spirometry and HRQoL.

Background: The aim of our study was to evaluate factors affecting cystic fibrosis (CF) patients' health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and to assess the level of agreement on HRQol between children and their parents.

Methods: Fifty-nine patients (mean age: 14.03 ± 4.

Fabrication of a complete mandibular denture that offers patient comfort, function, and aesthetics along with stability and acceptable retention remains one of the most challenging procedures in dental practice. Based on a thorough treatment planning and a successful surgical procedure implants have been shown to be reliable abutment for both retention and support of overdentures. During planning important relevant factors must be considered such as old age, systemic diseases, increased financial capability, etc.

Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a lymphoproliferative disorder consisting of abnormal Langerhans cell-like cells and other lymphoid cells. LCH presents as either a multisystem LCH (LCH-MS) or a single-system LCH (LCH-SS). Currently, neither the pathogeneses nor the factors that define these disease subclasses have been elucidated.

Background: The optimal chemotherapy in patients with advanced gastric carcinoma (GC) is yet to be determined. We compared sequential administration of docetaxel and irinotecan, both in combination with infused 5-fluorouracil/leucovorin (5-Fu/Lv), and randomly assigned patients to start with either of the two.

Methods: Patients with previously untreated locally advanced or metastatic GC and with measurable lesions (response evaluation criteria in solid tumors; RECIST) were randomly assigned to start with docetaxel 45 mg/m(2) (arm T) or irinotecan 180 mg/m(2) (arm C) with bolus/44-h infusion of 5-Fu/Lv (day 1 every 2 weeks).

Background: The purpose of these studies was to compare efficacy and toxicity of docetaxel alone with the combination of gemcitabine and docetaxel for treatment of metastatic esophageal carcinoma.

Patients And Methods: These studies enrolled patients with histopathologically verified squamous cell carcinoma or adenocarcinoma of the esophagus or cardia. Between March 1997 and June 1999, 52 patients were enrolled in the initial Phase II study (Study 1).

The authors describe the prosthodontic rehabilitation of an adult patient with unilateral cleft lip and palate. After the surgical and orthodontic treatment of cleft lip and palate patients the prosthodontic treatment was started to correct the palatal defect, the malocclusion and the missing teeth. The authors emphasize on preliminary steps by using diagnostic casts and try-in dentures and they also suggest other directives in the dental management of cleft lip and palate patients.

Lung cancer is a major cause of death in many countries. To improve the results of treatment, more individualized therapy is necessary; for this, it is necessary to identify new prognostic factors. In 21 patients with lung cancer (17 with non-small-cell lung cancer and 4 with small-cell lung cancer) that had received radiation treatment, the amount of body protein was estimated with in vivo neutron activation analysis.

A randomised double-blind placebo-controlled multicentre trial was performed to investigate the effects of megestrol acetate (MA) on the quality of life (QoL), appetite, weight and survival of patients with advanced, incurable, hormone-insensitive cancer. QoL was assessed at the start of treatment and at 4, 8 and 12 weeks, using the EORTC-QLQ-C30 instrument. 255 patients were randomised to 320 mg of MA daily or placebo for 12 weeks.

A hospital-based facility for in vivo prompt gamma neutron activation analysis of nitrogen for body protein determination is described. The patient is laid on a movable couch and is scanned with a vertically collimated neutron beam from a 252Cf neutron source (the amount of Cf varying from 120 to 40 microg due to the physical decay) positioned below the patient. Four large NaI(Tl) detectors are used to measure the 10.

Many cancer patients are affected by loss of appetite, weight loss and fatigue in the course of disease. These symptoms reduce the patients' quality of life, increase morbidity, and lessen tolerance to anti-tumor treatment. In some cases the symptoms are partly caused by various treatment modalities.

In 1993 the Vigano attachment appeared in Hungarian commercial turnover. On the basis of 20 cases observed during one year it can be stated, that the use is simple for dental technicians, the fitting effect is good, requires small place, insertion and removal is easy for elderly and handicapped patients; it is aesthetically satisfying and the design ensures minimum likelihood of repairs.

[Aerobic conditions and the dynamics of the methyl red reaction in Klebsielleae].

December 1990

The development of the methyl red reaction (MR) in Klebsielleae, analyzed during a 4-day thermostatting, showed important pH-variations. Two steps are distinguished during the reaction dynamics: the former of acidification, common to all Enterobacteriaceae and the latter of alkaline reversion, specific to Enterobacter, Klebsiella, Serratia and other MR germs. The processes determining the alkaline reversion are conditioned by the presence of large amounts of air/oxygen (aerobic processes).

Completeness of regional lymph node dissection was controlled in 23 patients with melanoma malignum. For that purpose 3--6 weeks after block-dissection lymph node scintigraphy was performed, by administration of intercostal and interdigital radiopharmacutical. Blockdissection was considered as complete, when neither after intercostal, nor after interdigital administration, any lymph nodes were delineated.
