Trunnion fracture is an incredibly rare complication of total hip arthroplasty. Of the few reported cases, all involve implants with faulty designs, a small neck taper, or an extended neck length or offset. Most also report corrosion and an adverse soft-tissue reaction.

Methods: This review was completed per the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Final electronic database searches were completed in October 2019 in Medline/PubMed, Medline/OVID, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), and Cochrane Library using preselected search terms.
