Lumen-Apposing Metal Stents in the Management of Complex Pelvic Abscesses.

Background: Lumen-apposing metal stents (LAMS) are utilized in a wide range of therapeutic gastrointestinal applications. We present our experience with LAMS-assisted drainage of complex pelvic abscesses at a large safety-net hospital.

Methods: EUS-guided LAMS placements for pelvic abscesses from July 2020 to June 2024 were analyzed.

Aim: To analyze the long-term impact of AI on a diverse at-risk patient population undergoing diagnostic colonoscopy for positive CRC screening tests or symptoms.

Three-wave (triad) resonance in a uniformly stratified fluid is investigated as a case study of energy transfer among oscillatory modes. The existence of a degenerate triad is demonstrated explicitly, where two components have identical group velocity. An illuminating example is a resonance involving waves from modes 1, 3, 5 families, but many other combinations are possible.

Robustness and stability of doubly periodic patterns of the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation.

The nonlinear Schrödinger equation possesses doubly periodic solutions expressible in terms of the Jacobi elliptic functions. Such solutions can be realized through doubly periodic patterns observed in experiments in fluid mechanics and optics. Stability and robustness of these doubly periodic wave profiles in the focusing regime are studied computationally by using two approaches.

We conducted a systematic review of society guidelines to identify differences in recommendations regarding the screening, diagnosis, and assessment of NAFLD.

Computational study on the transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus through aerosol in an elevator cabin: Effect of the ventilation system.

Aerosol transmission is now well-established as a route in the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Factors influencing the transport of virus-laden particles in an elevator cabin are investigated computationally and include human respiratory events, locations of the infected person(s), and the ventilation system (ventilation mode, ventilation capacity, and vent schemes). Objective: We assessed the clinical utility and accuracy of real-time continuous glucose monitoring (rtCGM) (Dexcom G6) in managing diabetes patients with severe COVID-19 infection following admission to the intensive care unit (ICU).

Methods: We present retrospective analysis of masked rtCGM in 30 patients with severe COVID-19. rtCGM was used during the first 24 hours for comparison with arterial-line point of care (POC) values, where clinicians utilized rtCGM data to adjust insulin therapy in patients if rtCGM values were within 20% of point-of-care (POC) values during the masked period.

Use of Continuous Glucose Monitoring to Assess Parenteral Nutrition-Induced Hyperglycemia in an Adult Patient With Severe COVID-19.

Many patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) are acutely malnourished and often require aggressive and early nutrition support with parenteral nutrition (PN). However, PN-induced hyperglycemia is a predictor of hospital mortality and is associated with increased length of stay. Background: This study investigated continued and discontinued use of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEi) or angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARB) during hospitalization of 614 hypertensive laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patients.

Methods: Demographics, comorbidities, vital signs, laboratory data, and ACEi/ARB usage were analyzed. To account for confounders, patients were substratified by whether they developed hypotension and acute kidney injury (AKI) during the index hospitalization.

Objectives: This study aimed to validate the Correctional Mental Health Screen (CMHS) in the Hong Kong prison population and determine the prevalence of psychiatric disorders among remand prisoners in Hong Kong and the associated factors of mental illness.

Methods: This cohort study was conducted at the Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre and the Tai Lam Centre for Women in Hong Kong. Remand prisoners aged ≥21 years were recruited between May and August 2014.

Objectives: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of mental illness in offenders referred to psychiatrists from January 2011 to March 2016 and any associations between crime and mental illness in these offenders.

Methods: Case notes of offenders referred to psychiatrists at the Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre from 1 January 2011 to 31 March 2016 were reviewed. The effects of therapeutic hip exercise with abdominal core activation on recruitment of the hip muscles.

Background: Core stabilization has been utilized for rehabilitation and prevention of lower limb musculoskeletal injuries. Previous studies showed that activation of the abdominal core muscles enhanced the hip muscle activity in hip extension and abduction exercises. However, the lack of the direct measurement and quantification of the activation level of the abdominal core muscles during the execution of the hip exercises affect the level of evidence to substantiate the proposed application of core exercises to promote training and rehabilitation outcome of the hip region.

Parental Factors Associated with Rumination Related Metacognitive Beliefs in Adolescence.

An increasing number of research studies have suggested that metacognition is associated with individuals' mental health. Specifically, metacognitive beliefs about rumination was proposed to link to the onset and maintenance of depression according to the metacognitive model of depression. The current study aimed to serve as a pilot study exploring how parents' metacognitive beliefs and parenting characteristics are associated with rumination related metacognitive beliefs in adolescents.
