Psychometric evaluation of the Polish adaptation of the Body Appreciation Scale-2 for Children (BAS-2C).

Positive body image is crucial in fostering self-esteem, mental well-being, and positive social functioning. However, our understanding of its development and role in school-aged children remains limited due to a scarcity of measures available for this age group across various countries and cultures. To bridge this gap, the aim of this study was to adapt the Body Appreciation Scale-2 for Children (BAS-2C) for Polish children aged 8-13 years.

Tumor location matters, next generation sequencing mutation profiling of left-sided, rectal, and right-sided colorectal tumors in 552 patients.

Despite the introduction of new molecular classifications, advanced colorectal cancer (CRC) is treated with chemotherapy supplemented with anti-EGFR and anti-VEGF targeted therapy. In this study, 552 CRC cases with different primary tumor locations (250 left side, 190 rectum, and 112 right side) were retrospectively analyzed by next generation sequencing for mutations in 50 genes. The most frequently mutated genes were TP53 in left-sided tumors compared to right-sided tumors and BRAF in right-sided tumors compared to left-sided tumors.

Depressive and anxiety symptom trajectories in Polish adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic and the outbreak of war in Ukraine: uncovering the role of family relations.

Introduction: The aim of the study was to investigate longitudinal trajectories of change in anxiety and depression symptoms in Polish adolescents during the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic and after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. Additionally, we aimed to identify risk/protective factors and outcomes associated with these trajectories.

Method: We collected data in three waves between November 2021 and May 2022.

Materialistic tendencies may originate in early childhood, and previous research shows that even preschoolers differ in the degree of their materialism. The goal of this project was to develop and validate a new instrument that reliably measures materialism in preschool children (4-6 years old). A simple and universal Pictorial Materialism Test (PMT) was created and its psychometric properties were evaluated.

Sinonasal mucosal melanoma is a rare tumor arising within the nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, or nasopharynx (sinonasal tract). This study evaluated 90 cases diagnosed in 29 males and 61 females with median age 68 years. Most tumors involved the nasal cavity and had an epithelioid morphology.

Nordic walking and water aerobics are very popular forms of physical activity in the elderly population. The aim of the study was to evaluate the influence of regular health training on the venous blood flow in lower extremities and body composition in women over 50 years old. Effect of attending childbirth education classes on psychological distress in pregnant women measured by means of the General Health Questionnaire.

Background: Pregnancy brings about many changes in a woman's life in somatic, psychological and social spheres. Therefore, many women decide to participate in childbirth education classes. The aim of study was to determine the differences in emotional distress between women who participated in childbirth education classes and these who did not.

Chromium and nickel in Pteridium aquilinum from environments with various levels of these metals.

Pteridium aquilinum is a ubiquitous species considered to be one of the plants most resistant to metals. This fern meets the demands for a good bioindicator to improve environmental control. Therefore, it was of interest to survey the accumulation of Cr and Ni in the rhizome and fronds of this species collected in Lower Silesia (SW Poland) of serpentinite rich in Cr and Ni and granite poor in these metals.

Preferred and undesirable products in the dietary habits of women.

Background: Proper nutrition, especially for elderly women as well as for women after mastectomy, is one of the basic conditions of maintaining physical health and mental well-being.

Objectives: The comparison of dietary habits of women of various ages and various levels of physical activity.

Material And Methods: The investigated group consisted of 90 women: 20 students of the Faculty of Physiotherapy at the Academy of Physical Education in Wrocław, 25 students of University of the Third Age at the Academy of Physical Education in Wrocław, 25 visitors of the sanatorium in Jedlina Zdrój, and 20 women after mastectomy.

Concentration of 25(OH)D₃ and calcium and phosphorus metabolism in patients suffering from relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. A pilot study.

Background And Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the concentration of 25(OH)D₃ and the indices of calcium and phosphorus metabolism at different times of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (MS). The relationships between the concentrations of 25(OH)D₃ and the indices of calcium-phosphate metabolism were determined, depending on the duration of disease and vitamin and unsaturated fatty acids supplementation.

Material And Methods: Thirty patients (15 at the early stage and 15 at the advanced stage of MS) were enrolled.

[Multiple mononeuropathy in the course of the Churg-Strauss syndrome--a case study].

The Churg-Strauss syndrome (CSS) is a systemic vasculitis. The symptoms of CSS normally occur between the ages of 20 and 40. We present a case of a 60-year-old man with the CSS evolving in three phases.

[The role of environmental factors in multiple sclerosis pathogenesis].

Multiple sclerosis (sclerosis muliplex, SM) is a chronic inflammatory-demyelinating disease of the central nervous system with the etiology not yet completely known. It begins in most cases between the 20th and 30th year of life. It occurs mainly in the caucasian race, more often in women.

Adenosine triphosphate for cardioversion of supraventricular tachycardia in two hydropic fetuses.

Objective: We performed a retrospective study to check the effectiveness of adenosine triphosphate (Striadyne) for cardioversion of fetal supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) and to evaluate neonatal outcome after prenatal treatment of severe SVT with fetal hydrops.

Methods: Two hydropic fetuses with SVT were treated with Striadyne injection into the umbilical vein, as an additional treatment to the digoxin given intravenously to the mother. Both fetuses were in severe condition, with ultrasound, Doppler and laboratory signs of fetal distress and congestive heart failure.

Myocardial perfusion and function of the systemic right ventricle in patients after atrial switch procedure for complete transposition: long-term follow-up.

Objectives: Our purpose was to assess the right ventricular (RV) function and identify patients with RV impairment long after the Mustard or Senning operation.

Background: Systemic ventricular failure can cause myocardial perfusion abnormalities in thallium scintigraphy correlating with hemodynamic deterioration.

Methods: Myocardial perfusion at rest and at peak exercise was assessed in 61 patients, aged 7 to 23 years in mean time 10.

[Indications for emergency surgical treatment of ectopic atrial tachycardia].

Recurrent automatic atrial tachycardia can induce dilated cardiomyopathy. We present clinical and therapeutic problems of 16 years old male with ectopic left atrial tachycardia refractory to pharmacological therapy. In this patient long periods of atrial tachycardia 200-240/min due to lack of effective medication caused cardiac failure.

[Transesophageal stimulation of the left atrium in children with arrhythmia (preliminary report)].

The conduction system of the heart was studied in 41 patients with cardiac arrhythmias by oesophageal stimulation of the left atrium. 31 children had a history of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, 5 supraventricular or/and ventricular premature beats and 5 were studied because of suspected bradycardia-tachycardia syndrome. In all patients stimulation of the left atrium was well tolerated.

[Cyanosis in children caused by inherited methemoglobinemia due to deficiency of NADH-dependent methemoglobin reductase in erythrocytes].

Two cases of the congenital methemoglobinemia in children due to the deficiency of NADH-dependent methemoglobin reductase in erythrocytes. These children were referred to the Cardiological Ward at the Child Health Centre with suspected cyanotic heart defect. Cardiological examinations excluded heart defect but an increased blood methemoglobin level and decreased activity of NADH-dependent methemoglobin reductase were found, that caused methemoglobinemia.
