Sociodemographic Factors and Stage of Cancer at Diagnosis: A Population-Based Study in South India.

Purpose: Lower socioeconomic status is associated with inferior cancer survival in high-income countries, but whether this applies to low- and middle-income countries is not well described. Here, we use a population-based cancer registry to explore the association between educational level and stage of cancer at diagnosis in South India.

Methods: We used the Trivandrum District population-based cancer registry to identify all cases of breast and cervical cancer (women) and oral cavity (OC) and lung cancer (men) who were diagnosed from 2012 to 2014.

Introduction: A 5-flurouracil, Adriamycin, Cyclophosphamide (FAC) and Adriamycin, Paclitaxel (AT) are two popular chemotherapeutic regimens for treatment of breast carcinoma. The most time tested and popular regimen is FAC. It is extensively studied for efficacy and toxicity.

Simple and efficient methods of synthesis of 3,3-diarylcyclobutanone and 3,3-diarylcyclobutylamine derivatives using the TiCl4/R3N reagent system.

[reaction: see text] The iminium ions generated in situ by the oxidation of N,N-diisopropyl-N-benzylamine using iodine react with diaryl ketones in the presence of TiCl4/R3N to give the corresponding 3,3-diarylcyclobutanones in moderate to good yields (49-86%). The 3,3-diarylcyclobutanone iminium ions formed in this transformation was reduced in situ with B2H6 to produce the corresponding 3,3-diarylcyclobutylamines (52-79% yields), a class of compounds with potential antidepressant activity. In addition, a series of N,N-dimethyl-3,3-diarylcyclobutylamines were synthesized by the reductive amination of the corresponding 3,3-diarylcyclobutanone derivatives.

Dendrimers based on a three-dimensionally disposed AB4 monomer.

[reaction: see text] Design and synthesis of a novel class of dendrons based on an AB(4) monomer are described. These dendrons have been evaluated by using dendritic encapsulation of a redox active core. The electrochemical properties of symmetric ferrocene-cored dendrimers show that significant alterations in redox potential and heterogeneous electron-transfer rate constants could be achieved even at lower generations.

Novel synthesis of cyclobutanone derivatives via dimetalation of iminium ions with the TiCl4-trialkylamine reagent system.

Iminium salts are generated in situ, react with TiCl4-trialkylamines, and diaryl ketones to produce 3,3-diaryl-cyclobutanones in moderate to good yields.

Clean up varicose vein surgery--use a tourniquet.

A controlled randomised trial has been carried out to ascertain if there are tangible benefits from using a tourniquet when avulsing varicose veins during routine varicose vein surgery. Twenty-six patients have been studied. Twenty limbs were operated on with a tourniquet and 20 limbs without a tourniquet.
