Yakutia is one of the coldest permanently inhabited regions in the world, characterized by a subarctic climate with average January temperatures near -40 °C and the minimum below -60 °C. Recently, we demonstrated accelerated epigenetic aging of the Yakutian population in comparison to their Central Russian counterparts, residing in a considerably milder climate. In this paper, we analyzed these cohorts from the inflammaging perspective and addressed two hypotheses: a mismatch in the immunological profiles and accelerated inflammatory aging in Yakuts.

Monometallic Ni, Pd and Pt and bimetallic catalysts formed by combinations of the above metals supported on SBA-15 silica were synthesized, characterized and tested in the hydrodeoxygenation reaction of anisole. The objective of the work was to detect the effect of the nature of metals on the activity of the catalysts at different steps of anisole hydrodeoxygenation: hydrogenation of the aromatic ring of anisole and C-O bond cleavage in the intermediate cyclohexyl methyl ether. The support and the catalysts were characterized by N physisorption, X-ray diffraction, UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, temperature-programmed reduction, scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy and HAADF-STEM.

The influence of the acid sites in the hydrodeoxygenation of anisole performed over Ni catalysts supported on SBA-15 modified with metal oxides (Ni/M-SBA-15, M = Ti, Zr, Al, or Nb) was demonstrated. Catalysts were characterized by SEM-EDX, nitrogen physisorption, XRD, UV-visible DRS, TPR, TPD of ammonia, IR-Py, O chemisorption, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. The mesoporous structure and the hexagonal arrangement of the supports were maintained in the catalysts.

Objectives: Recent research suggests that brown adipose tissue (BAT) plays a functional role in non-shivering thermogenesis; however, few studies have examined population variation in BAT or its relationship with other mechanisms of adaptation to cold stress. This study characterized BAT thermogenesis and other adaptive responses to low temperatures among Indigenous Siberian young adults and young adults living near Chicago, IL.

Wide-pore cryostructurates were prepared via freezing sodium alginate aqueous solutions with subsequent ice sublimation from the frozen samples, followed by their incubation in the ethanol solutions of calcium chloride or sulfuric acid, rinsing, and final drying. Such sequence of operations resulted in the calcium alginate or alginic acid sponges, respectively. The swelling degree of the walls of macropores in such matrices decreased with increasing polymer concentration in the initial solution.

Objectives: This study provides the first investigation of non-shivering thermogenesis (NST) and brown adipose tissue (BAT) activity among an indigenous circumpolar population, the Yakut of northeastern Siberia. The study also examines the health significance of BAT activity in this population by testing the relationships between BAT thermogenesis and biomarkers of cardio-metabolic disease risk, such as percent body fat and blood glucose and cholesterol levels.

Objectives: Adipose tissue hypoxia appears to play a role in promoting chronic inflammation and the development of obesity-related cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, yet the underlying mechanisms are not well understood. The aim of the present research is to examine whether adiponectin levels (an adipocyte-derived hormone with anti-inflammatory properties) are inversely correlated with hemoglobin levels in an indigenous Siberian population.

The paper describes unexpected properties of hypercross-linked polystyrenes with ultimate cross-linking degrees of 300, 400, and 500%, where three, four, or five methylene links, respectively, could bind each polystyrene phenyl ring to its spacious neighbors. The polymers exhibit a strong electron spin resonance signal, unusual spectra in IR, UV, and visible ranges, and they are not typical dielectrics. The nonfunctionalized hypercross-linked polymers absorb significant amounts of inorganic acids, salts, and bases due to interactions of protons or other cations with electron-donating fragments of the aromatic network with the high extent of mutual connectivity and also due to dispersion interactions of anions with the polymer matrix.

Acetamidine hydrochloride and p-aminobenzamidine dihydrochloride interact with 3-ferrocenylmethylidene-2,4-pentanedione at 80-82 °C in the presence of K2CO3 in the water-alcohol medium in two tautomeric forms (the amidoimine and enediamine ones) with formation of mixtures of pyrimidine and piperidone derivatives and polymeric coordination complexes of potassium ferrocenyl(hexahydro)pyrimidoxides. The structure of the resultant compounds is elucidated on the basis of IR, 1H- and 13C-NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and elemental analysis data. The crystal structures of 6-ferrocenyl-4-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-piperidone, potassium 6-ferrocenyl-4-methyl-2-methylidene(hexahydro)pyrimidin-4-oxide and 2-(4-aminophenyl)-4-ferrocenyl-6-methyl-pyrimidine were determined by X-ray analysis of suitable single crystals.

Objectives: Previous research has shown that the extreme cold and short day lengths of polar winters promote increased production and uptake of thyroid hormones, resulting in marked declines in free triiodothyronine (fT3). However, this "polar T3 syndrome" has been documented almost exclusively on small samples of male sojourners and little is known about seasonal changes in thyroid function among indigenous circumpolar groups. The reactions of 2-cyano-3-ferrocenylacrylonitrile (1) with malononitrile (2) in a MeOH/H₂O or 2-PrOH/H₂O medium in the presence of Na₂CO₃ afforded 6-alkoxy-2-amino-4-ferrocenylpyridine-3,5-dicarbonitriles 3a,b (multi-component condensation) and 6-alkoxy-2-amino-4-ferrocenyl-3-ferrocenylmethyl-3,4-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarbonitriles 4a,b (multi-component cyclodimerization). Analogous reactions of 1 with 2 in an MeOH/H₂O medium in the presence of NaOH, piperidine, or morpholine gave compounds 3a, 4a and 2-amino-4-ferrocenyl-6-hydroxy-, 6-piperidino- and 6-morpholinopyridine-3,5-dicarbonitriles 3c-e, respectively. The structures of the compounds 3b, 4a and 4b were established by the spectroscopic data and X-ray diffraction analysis.

We studied high-resolution (1)H nuclear magnetic resonance spectra of the serum and serum albumin from patients with the first episode of schizophrenia and healthy individuals. A relative increase in signal intensities of CH(2) protons in serum LDL and VLDL in schizophrenia was demonstrated. Higher intensities of CH(2) and CH(3) protons of non-esterified fatty acids were found in (1)H nuclear magnetic resonance spectra of serum albumin.
