Spinel cobalt(ii,iii) oxide (CoO) represents a p-type semiconductor exhibiting promising functional properties in view of applications in a broad range of technological fields including magnetic materials and gas sensors as well as sustainable energy conversion systems based on photo- and electrocatalytic water splitting. Due to their high specific surface area, nanoparticle-based structures appear particularly promising for such applications. However, precise control over the diameter and the particle size distribution is required to achieve reproducible size-dependent properties.

Background: To evaluate longer-term results of a cohort treated with primary chimney endovascular aneurysm sealing (ChEVAS) for complex abdominal aortic aneurysms or secondary ChEVAS after failed endovascular aneurysm repair/endovascular aneurysm sealing.

Methods: A single-center study was conducted of 47 consecutive patients (mean age 72 ± 8 years, range 50-91; 38 men) treated with ChEVAS from February 2014 to November 2016 and followed through December 2021. The main outcome measures were all-cause mortality (ACM), aneurysm-related mortality, occurrence of secondary complications and conversion to open surgery.

Objective: Long term differences in survival after elective repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) between open surgical repair (OSR) and endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) are unclear, and hitherto artificial intelligence has not been used for this purpose. The aim was to compare the precision of survival estimates between the Kaplan-Meier (KM) method and the artificial intelligence derived method Neural Multi-Task Logistic Regression (N-MTLR), and to compare survival estimates as a function of patient age and time since surgery between OSR and EVAR using N-MTLR.

Methods: All AAAs between 2003 and 2018 in Denmark were identified in the Danish vascular registry.

A major concern for olive cultivation in many extra-Mediterranean regions is the adaptation of recently introduced cultivars to environmental conditions different from those prevailing in the original area, such as the Mediterranean basin. Some of these cultivars can easily adapt their physiological and biochemical parameters in new agro-environments, whereas others show unbalanced values of oleic acid content. We investigate the use of spatial interpolation methods for reconstructing the horizontal near-surface wind field given a sparse set of measurements. In particular, random Fourier features is compared with a set of benchmark methods including kriging and inverse distance weighting. Random Fourier features is a linear model approximating the velocity field, with randomly sampled frequencies and amplitudes trained to minimize a loss function.

Modern audiology is considered to be a multidisciplinary field addressing clinical work and research on all aspects of hearing impairment, particularly prevention/protection, diagnostics and treatment of hearing problems as well as rehabilitation of patients with any degree of hearing loss. Nonlinear interferometers allow spectroscopy in the mid-infrared range by detecting correlated visible light, for which non-cooled detectors with higher specific detectivity and lower dark count rates are available. We present a new approach for the registration of spectral information, which combines a nonlinear interferometer using non-degenerate spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) with a Fourier-transform spectroscopy concept. In order to increase the spectral coverage, we use broadband non-collinear SPDC in periodically poled LiNbO.

A 27-year-old female involved a motor vehicle collision as the restrained driver presented to the ER with agonal breathing and a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) of 3. Radiographic imaging demonstrated C2-3 craniocaudal dislocation, bilateral C2 comminuted pedicle fractures extending through the transverse foramina, complete bilateral vertebral artery occlusion, and negative signs of stroke with MRI. After halo immobilization, surgical stabilization, and medical treatment the patient was discharged and at her six-month follow up she was without neurological deficit.

Pulsed nonlinear-optical upconversion is used for mid-infrared signal detection. A setup for both mid-infrared generation and upconversion based on a single pump laser enables sensitive light detection and is utilized for gas spectroscopy. With the demonstrated pulsed setup, quantum efficiencies above 80 % for the upconversion of a Gaussian beam signal and 25 % for the upconversion of backscattered radiation are achieved and in agreement with theoretical predictions.

The migration and accumulation of iodide ions create a modulation of the respective interfacial barriers causing the hysteresis in solar cells based on methylammonium lead iodide perovskites. Iodide ions are identified as the migrating species by measuring temperature dependent current-transients and photoelectron spectroscopy.
