Nurse educators are challenged to implement simulation best practices (SBP) in advanced practice curricula. Prebriefing and debriefing were implemented in a nurse practitioner course using software-generated asynchronous virtual simulation. A pretest-posttest design was used to evaluate simulation scores and debriefing experience in a convenience sample of 36 students.

Objective: To examine changes in cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk outcomes of overweight/obese adults with prediabetes.

Methods: Using data from a randomized control trial of digital diabetes prevention program (d-DPP) with 599 participants. We applied the atherosclerotic CVD (ASCVD) risk calculator to predict 10-year CVD risk for d-DPP and small education (comparison) groups.

The Concussion Challenge Assessment: Development and reliability of a novel gross motor assessment tool for paediatric concussion.

Aims: The aim of this study was to develop a gross motor performance clinical assessment tool, the Concussion Challenge Assessment (CCA), for paediatric concussion populations.

Background: The US military is transitioning rapidly from the Global War on Terrorism in preparation for near-peer combat in a multidomain operations (MDO) and/or large scale combat operations (LSCO) setting. Due to potentially contested freedom of movement in this setting, casualty evacuation may be significantly delayed, resulting in medics and other prehospital medical personnel taking on patient care duties normally performed by nurses in a hospital-based setting. However, the frequency of nursing-type care remains unclear.

Gender moderates the association between chronic academic stress with top-down and bottom-up attention.

Research on the relationship between chronic stress and cognition is limited by a lack of concurrent measurement of state-anxiety, physiological arousal, and gender. For the first time, we assessed the impact of these factors on top-down/conscious (simple and choice reaction time) and bottom-up/reflexive (saccadic reaction time) measures of attention using CONVIRT virtual-reality cognitive tests. Participants (N = 163) completed measures of academic stress (effort-reward imbalance; ERI) and state-anxiety while heart-rate variability was recorded continuously throughout the experiment.

Effects of a Digital Diabetes Prevention Program: An RCT.

Introduction: In light of the need to expand the reach and access of clinically proven digital Diabetes Prevention Programs (d-DPPs) and the need for rigorous evidence of effectiveness, the purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of a digital Diabetes Prevention Program for improving weight, HbA1c, and cardiovascular risk factors among people with prediabetes compared to enhanced standard care plus waitlist control.

Study Design: This was a single-blind RCT among participants at risk of developing type 2 diabetes and included 12 months of follow-up.

Setting/participants: A total of 599 volunteer patients with prediabetes were recruited primarily through electronic medical records and primary care practices.

Comparison of two glucose-monitoring systems for use in horses.

Objective: To determine the accuracy of 2 interstitial glucose-monitoring systems (GMSs) for use in horses compared with a point-of-care (POC) glucometer and standard laboratory enzymatic chemistry method (CHEM).

Animals: 8 clinically normal adult horses.

Procedures: One of each GMS device (Dexcom G6 and Freestyle Libre 14-day) was placed on each horse, and blood glucose concentration was measured via POC and CHEM at 33 time points and compared with simultaneous GMS readings.

Assessment of serum symmetric dimethylarginine and creatinine concentrations in cats with urethral obstruction.

Objectives: The aims of this study were to evaluate serum symmetric dimethylarginine (SDMA) and creatinine concentrations in cats with urethral obstruction pre- and post-decompression of the obstruction, and to determine if pre-decompression values were predictive of post-decompression renal function, as measured by SDMA and creatinine.

Background: Physical activity (PA) mitigated psychological distress during the initial weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic, yet not much is known about whether PA had effects on stress in subsequent months. An observation of the impact of tailored messages on participant non-compliance during Desire2Move.

We assessed the impact of tailored versus targeted messages on program non-compliance during Desire2Move (D2M), an 8-week eHealth program that promotes physical activity (PA). Participants recorded minutes of PA using MapMyFitness, which counted toward their departments' PA total. Departments were randomized into the targeted messaging (TM) or tailored messaging (TM+) group based on participant-reported goals.
