In this study, a three-dimensional (3D) interconnected porous Ni/SiC skeleton (3D Ni/SiC) was synthesized by binder-free hydrogen bubble template-assisted electrodeposition in an electrolyte containing Ni ions and SiC nanopowders. This 3D Ni/SiC skeleton served as a substrate for directly synthesizing nickel-cobalt layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanosheets via electrodeposition, allowing the formation of a nickel-cobalt LDH nanosheet-decorated 3D Ni/SiC skeleton (NiCo@3D Ni/SiC). The multiscale hierarchical structure of NiCo@3D Ni/SiC was attributed to the synergistic interaction between the pseudocapacitor (3D Ni skeleton and Ni-Co LDH) and electrochemical double-layer capacitor (SiC nanopowders).

This study explores the integration of machine learning (ML) techniques to predict and optimize the compressive strength of alkali-activated materials (AAMs) sourced from four industrial waste streams: blast furnace slag, fly ash, reducing slag, and waste glass. Aimed at mitigating the labor-intensive trial-and-error method in AAM formulation, ML models can predict the compressive strength and then streamline the mixture compositions. By leveraging a dataset of only 42 samples, the Random Forest (RF) model underwent fivefold cross-validation to ensure reliability.

Laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) provides a rapid and versatile approach for producing parts with complex geometries. However, many parts with intricate geometries have overhang structures, which are not easily fabricated by using LPBF and are often downgraded by staircase effects, warpage, cracks, and dross formation. Thus, the present study proposes a combined numerical and experimental approach for determining the optimal settings of the laser power and scanning speed that minimize the surface roughness and maximize the density of Inconel 718 LPBF overhang structures.
