Background: Acquired haemophilia A (AHA) is an acquired bleeding disorder resulting from autoantibodies against Factor VIII (FVIII). Previous studies have reported differences in FVIII inhibitor kinetics (type I or type II) in AHA compared to severe haemophilia A.

Aim: To characterise inhibitor kinetics in AHA and evaluate the proportions displaying type I, II or indeterminate kinetics.

Phosphonate analogues of α-amino acids are increasingly valued for their significant potential in medicinal chemistry. Fluorine is a "magic" element that plays a huge role in modulating the properties of organic compounds. In this work, we combined the two pharmacophores in the synthesis of three series of new α-aminophosphonates.

Article Synopsis
  • - CHIKV cases in Malaysia increased from 2019 to 2021, likely due to the virus spreading from neighboring countries and a genotype shift from earlier outbreaks, particularly linked to the Indian Ocean Islands outbreak in 2004.
  • - An analysis of 56 CHIKV positive serum samples from Tangkak, Johor highlighted that the 2021 outbreak strains bore an ECSA-IOL genotype, closely resembling strains from a 2018-2019 outbreak in Thailand and showing mutation adaptations favoring different mosquito vectors.
  • - The findings suggest the 2021 outbreak in Malaysia is connected to strains from the Indian subcontinent via Thailand, with notable genetic mutations potentially enhancing the virus's ability to spread and adapt to

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive subtype of breast cancer that lacks an actionable target with limited treatment options beyond conventional chemotherapy. Therapeutic failure is often encountered due to inherent or acquired resistance to chemotherapy. Previous studies implicated PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway in cancer stem cells (CSCs) enrichment and hence chemoresistance.

Introduction: Factor (F) XI deficiency is an inherited bleeding disorder with increased prevalence in Ashkenazi Jews where it is mainly caused by two variants, p.Glu135* (type II, leading to a null allele) and p.Phe301Leu (type III, missense variant).

Introduction And Importance: Adrenal Cavernous Hemangioma is an extremely rare histological type of adrenal tumors, typically asymptomatic and occasionally revealed by a symptom or complication. Here, we report an atypical symptomatic case to enrich the limited international case series.

Case Presentation: We present the case of an 80-year-old woman who underwent laparoscopic left adrenalectomy for a painful and potentially malignant left adrenal neoplasm, leading to the discovery of a five-centimeter adrenal cavernous hemangioma.

Background: Age-related thoracic kyphosis can impair posture, diaphragmatic excursion, respiratory function, and overall quality of life (QoL).

Purpose: This randomized controlled trial aimed to compare the effects of corrective exercises alone versus combined with diaphragmatic breathing exercises on thoracic kyphosis, diaphragmatic excursion, thoracic pain, and QoL in postmenopausal kyphotic women.

Methods: Forty postmenopausal women diagnosed with thoracic kyphosis were randomly divided into two groups.

Article Synopsis
  • * New strategies include using 5' end mRNA cap analogues to inhibit eIF4E's overexpression, with promising results from modified cap analogues.
  • * The study reveals that introducing dual modifications in these analogues enhances their effectiveness, signaling progress in developing cancer treatments that target the eIF4E pathway.

Recently, wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) research has experienced a strong impetus during the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. However, a few technical issues related to surveillance strategies, such as standardized procedures ranging from sampling to testing protocols, need to be resolved in preparation for future infectious disease outbreaks. This review highlights the study characteristics, potential use of WBE and overview of methods, as well as methods utilized to detect severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) including its variant in wastewater.

Ventral abdominal wall incisional hernia is defined as a defect in the musculo-fascial layers of the abdominal wall in the region of the postoperative scar. There is a slight increase in the incidence of incisional hernia in the female gender. The higher percentage of incisional hernia in females might be due to laxity of abdominal wall muscles after multiple pregnancies and also an increased incidence of obesity in females.

Background: Central venous catheter (CVC) insertion using simulation is an essential skill for anesthesiologists. Simulation training is an effective mean to master this skill. Given the large number of residents and the limited duration of training sessions, the active practice time is limited and residents remain observers of their colleagues for much of the session.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study assessed the growth performance and gut microbiota differences in two rabbit breeds, Native Middle-Egypt (NMER) and Giant Flanders (GF), from 5 to 12 weeks of age, using 16S rRNA gene sequencing to analyze gut samples.
  • - Results showed that GF rabbits had better growth metrics, such as weight gain and villus height in the jejunum, compared to NMER rabbits, with their gut microbiota exhibiting beneficial bacterial compositions.
  • - Significant correlations were found between specific gut microbiota in the jejunum and cecum of different breeds and their weight gain, indicating that the healthy microbiota in GF may help mitigate pathogenic effects in these rabbits.

International guidelines designed to minimize the risk of complications that can occur when correcting severe hyponatremia have been widely accepted for a decade. On the basis of the results of a recent large retrospective study of patients hospitalized with hyponatremia, it has been suggested that hyponatremia guidelines have gone too far in limiting the rate of rise of the serum sodium concentration; the need for therapeutic caution and frequent monitoring of the serum sodium concentration has been questioned. These assertions are reminiscent of a controversy that began many years ago.

Introduction: Exploratory laparotomy is still the standard therapy for patients who need surgical intervention for adhesive small bowel obstruction (SBO). However, the use of laparoscopy in the management of adhesive SBO is still controversial. We aimed to detect the short-term outcomes between open and laparoscopic adhesiolysis for SBO.

Spontaneous bladder rupture (SBR) is a rare condition and often missed diagnosis, especially after a non traumatic vaginal delivery. A 32-year-old para 3 woman, consulted for abdominal pain and anuria two days after instrumental vaginal delivery with forceps for foetal distress in second sate of labour. Blood tests were suggestive of an acute renal failure.

Background: A urachal cyst has a rare incidence that has been reported as 1/5,000 live birth.

Case Presentation: We report two patients with a complicated urachal cyst, a 5-year-old female who presented to the emergency department with severe abdominal pain and a 3-year-old female presenting with abdominal pain and constipation. Upon laparoscopic exploration both patients had complicated urachal cysts which were adherent to the urinary bladder.

Acute SARS-CoV-2 infection is associated with several cutaneous manifestations, including vasculitic digital ischemia. The reversal of digital ischemia in the primary Raynaud phenomenon (RP) arises from endothelial hypersensitivity to circulating adrenaline and noradrenaline and diminished vasodilatory innervation. SARS-CoV-2 can infect endothelial cells and be associated with raised adrenaline levels, reduced microvascular dilatory responses, and exaggerated clotting mechanisms.

Aim: Treatment of complex fistula-in-ano is challenging and there is no consensus on the optimal treatment that can provide complete healing and preserve sphincter function. The aim of this study was to evaluate fistulotomy with external tract fistulectomy and primary sphincter reconstruction (FFSR) in the treatment of high trans-sphincteric fistula.

Method: This is a prospective single-centre study including patients with a high trans-sphincteric fistula who underwent FFSR from June 2017 to June 2018.
