This study used optical attenuation coefficient (OAC)-based optical coherence tomography (OCT) en face images to assess the ellipsoid zone (EZ) in the foveal region. This retrospective, observational, cross-sectional study of 41 healthy volunteers and 34 patients with retinal diseases included imaging data acquired using a prototype swept-source OCT system. EZ en face images were generated from OCT raster scan volumes based on OAC, followed by denoising and binarization to quantify the percentage of EZ structural normality or abnormality relative to the total imaging area.

Pruritus in the elderly, particularly those cases without skin dryness or other identifiable causes, makes treatment challenging due to the lack of evidence regarding the therapeutic effects of antipruritics. This study proposes an age-related alloknesis mouse model for an evaluation system for such cases, and aimed to investigate the effectiveness and mechanisms of action of several drugs commonly used as antipruritics in Japan, utilizing this model. Mice 69-80 weeks old were used as aged mice, and the level of mechanical alloknesis was counted as the number of scratching behaviours in response to innocuous stimuli.

To exploit the magnetic interactions of multiple metals, a heterometallic one-dimensional (1D) chain containing three kinds of metals, Rh, Pt, and Mn, where [Rh(OCCH)] and [PtMn(piam)(NH)] (piam = pivalamidate) are connected through unbridged Rh-Pt bonds to form -Rh-Rh-Pt-Mn-Pt- alignments was successfully synthesized. The Mn atoms are tetrahedrally coordinated by four oxygen atoms of the piam ligands, where the coordination geometries form a zigzag 1D chain. Stabilizing effects from two nitrogen substituents and/or the coordination of a Lewis base were recently used to synthesize the first examples of anionic nucleophilic aluminium species. Here we show the synthesis and properties of a potassium salt of a non-stabilized dialkylaluminium anion that exhibits very strong basicity, which reflects the electropositive character of aluminium.

The study aims to confirm the feasibility of new oral triple combination therapy using methotrexate (MTX), mizoribine (MZR), and tacrolimus (TAC) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by in vitro and clinical analyses. Triple therapy with a combination of MTX, MZR, and TAC was used for an in vitro study with osteoclasts and a prospective clinical study in order to show the efficacy of these agents against refractory RA. In particular, low-dose TAC or MZR was added to treat 14 patients with RA that was resistant to MTX + MZR or MTX + TAC dual therapy.

Various types of polycyclic aromatic compounds (PACs) in diesel exhaust particles are thought to contribute to carcinogenesis in mammals. Although the carcinogenicity, mutagenicity and tumour-initiating activity of these compounds have been evaluated, their tumour-promoting activity is unclear. Autoantibodies to proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) are specifically, if rarely, present in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patient sera. Even SLE patients lacking PCNA reactivity often show reaction to PCNA-binding protein.
