Article Synopsis
  • There is limited research linking breast MRI surveillance to the incidence of advanced second breast cancer in women with a personal history of breast cancer.
  • A study conducted on women who underwent breast cancer surgery between 2009 and 2014 found that those who received MRI surveillance had significantly lower odds of developing advanced second breast cancer compared to those who did not.
  • The findings suggest that surveillance breast MRI may be an effective tool for monitoring women with a personal history of breast cancer, potentially leading to earlier detection and better outcomes.

Pneumococcal vaccines are a cornerstone for the prevention of pneumococcal diseases, reducing morbidity and mortality in children and adults worldwide. Pneumococcal vaccine composition is based on the polysaccharide capsule of , which is one of the most important identified contributors to the pathogen's virulence. Similarities in the structural composition of polysaccharides included in licensed pneumococcal vaccines may result in cross-reactivity of immune response against closely related serotypes, including serotypes not included in the vaccine.

Interleukin-33 (IL-33) is a proinflammatory alarmin cytokine released by damaged epithelial tissue cells that initiates and amplifies both type 1 and type 2 inflammatory cascades. A role for IL-33 in atopic dermatitis (AD; a chronic, relapsing type 2 inflammatory disease of the skin) has been proposed. Itepekimab is a novel human IgG4P monoclonal antibody against IL-33, currently in clinical development for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Introduction: Since the introduction of pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, there have been warnings of an increase in infections caused by non-vaccine type of Streptococcus pneumoniae strains. Among them, nonencapsulated Streptococcus pneumoniae (NESp) has been reported to cause invasive infections, especially in children and the elderly. Due to low virulence, however, basic experimental reports on invasive infections are limited.

We established an infant mouse model for colonization and transmission by nonencapsulated Streptococcus pneumoniae (NESp) strains to gain important information about its virulence among children. Invasive pneumococcal diseases have decreased dramatically since the worldwide introduction of pneumococcal capsular polysaccharide vaccines. Increasing prevalence of nonvaccine serotypes, including NESp, has been highlighted as a challenge in treatment strategy, but the virulence of NESp is not well understood.

Piezoelectric energy harvesters (PEHs) aim to generate sufficient power to operate targeting device from the limited ambient energy. PEH includes mechanical-to-mechanical, mechanical-to-electrical, and electrical-to-electrical energy conversions, which are related to PEH structures, materials, and circuits, respectively; these should be efficient for increasing the total power. This critical review focuses on PEH structures and materials associated with the two major energy conversions to improve PEH performance.

Lattice defects typically reduce lattice thermal conductivity, which has been widely exploited in applications such as thermoelectric energy conversion. Here, an anomalous dependence of the lattice thermal conductivity on point defects is demonstrated in epitaxial WO thin films. Depending on the substrate, the lattice of epitaxial WO expands or contracts as protons are intercalated by electrolyte gating or oxygen vacancies are introduced by adjusting growth conditions.

Group B streptococcus (GBS) is a leading cause of young infant mortality and morbidity globally, with vaccines being developed for over four decades but none licensed to date. A serocorrelate of protection against invasive disease in young infants is being considered to facilitate vaccine early licensure, followed by demonstration of efficacy assessed postlicensure. In this Review, we synthesise the available scientific evidence to define an immune correlate associated with GBS disease risk reduction on the basis of studies of natural infection.
