Using a full-wave theory to analyze the light beam scattering at sharp interfaces, we reexamine the anomalous spin-orbit interaction (SOI) around the Fresnel coefficient (FC) singularities. We evaluate the spin-dependent beam shifts near the singularity for three typical optical interfaces, comparing our results with existing ones. Existing theories neglect the contribution of the wave vector component near the FC singularities, potentially leading to erroneous results.

Purpose: To develop a 3D spherical EPTI (sEPTI) acquisition and a comprehensive reconstruction pipeline for rapid high-quality whole-brain submillimeter and QSM quantification.

Methods: For the sEPTI acquisition, spherical k-space coverage is utilized with variable echo-spacing and maximum k ramp-sampling to improve efficiency and signal incoherency compared to existing EPTI approaches. For reconstruction, an iterative rank-shrinking B estimation and odd-even high-order phase correction algorithms were incorporated into the reconstruction to better mitigate artifacts from field imperfections.

Potassium-containing transition metal layered oxides (KTmO), although possessing high energy density and suitable operating voltage, suffer from severe hygroscopic properties due to their two dimensional (2D) layered structure. Their air sensitivity compromises structural stability during prolonged air exposure, therefore increasing the cost. The common sense for designing air-stable layered cathode materials is to avoid contact with HO molecules.

Article Synopsis
  • - Prostaglandin I, produced by COX in endothelial cells, can cause vasodilation in some blood vessels while paradoxically leading to endothelium-dependent constriction (EDC) in others, particularly in diseases like hypertension, though the effects of PGIS deficiency on EDC and related cardiovascular issues are not well understood.
  • - The study utilized various mouse models, including wild-type and genetically modified knockouts, to measure the impact of PGIS deficiency and assess vasomotor responses, indicating alterations in nitric oxide production and signaling.
  • - Results showed that PGIS deficiency worsened EDC and led to increases in blood pressure and cardiac issues over time, but additional removal of the thromboxane receptor improved vascular function and reduced

In this research, a series of K-intercalated quasi-1D vanadium-based nano-ribbons (KVO NRs) were synthesized a facile solvothermal method. The solvation and reductive effects of vanadium oxide precursors (VO powder) on the crystallization and growth of KVO NRs were studied. Besides, post-heat treatment was performed to improve the crystallinity of KVO NRs.

The applicability of cytosine base editors is hindered by their dependence on sequence context and by off-target effects. Here, by using AlphaFold2 to predict the three-dimensional structure of 1,483 cytidine deaminases and by experimentally characterizing representative deaminases (selected from each structural cluster after categorizing them via partitional clustering), we report the discovery of a few deaminases with high editing efficiencies, diverse editing windows and increased ratios of on-target to off-target effects. Specifically, several deaminases induced C-to-T conversions with comparable efficiency at AC/TC/CC/GC sites, the deaminases could introduce stop codons in single-copy and multi-copy genes in mammalian cells without double-strand breaks, and some residue conversions at predicted DNA-interacting sites reduced off-target effects.

Engineering F-rich solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layers is regarded as an effective strategy to enable the long-term cycling stability of potassium-ion batteries (KIBs). However, in the conventional KPF carbonate electrolytes, it is challenging to form F-containing SEI layers due to the inability of KPF to decompose into KF. Herein, AlCl is employed as a novel additive to change the chemical environment of the KPF carbonate electrolyte.

Using (10087±44)×10^{6}  J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector, numerous Ξ^{-} and Λ decay asymmetry parameters are simultaneously determined from the process J/ψ→Ξ^{-}Ξ[over ¯]^{+}→Λ(pπ^{-})π^{-}Λ[over ¯](n[over ¯]π^{0})π^{+} and its charge-conjugate channel. The precisions of α_{Λ0} for Λ→nπ^{0} and α[over ¯]_{Λ0} for Λ[over ¯]→n[over ¯]π^{0} compared to world averages are improved by factors of 4 and 1.7, respectively.

Article Synopsis
  • Natural killer/T cell lymphoma (NKTCL) is a serious cancer caused by the abnormal growth of certain immune cells, and daratumumab was studied as a possible treatment for patients with recurrent or resistant NKTCL.
  • In a clinical trial (NKT2001), daratumumab showed a lower than expected response rate, although one patient who didn't express the targeted CD38 still benefited from the treatment, indicating that the drug might work through other immune system effects.
  • Analysis of the immune profiles from trial participants revealed significant differences in immune cell populations between patients who responded to treatment and those who didn’t, suggesting that understanding these immune factors could enhance the therapeutic effectiveness of daratumumab in NKTCL.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a global public health concern, as it is known to cause multiple diseases while also being etiologically associated with a wide range of epithelial and lymphoid malignancies. Currently, there is no available prophylactic vaccine against EBV. gB is the EBV fusion protein that mediates viral membrane fusion and participates in host recognition, making it critical for EBV infection in both B cells and epithelial cells.

Article Synopsis
  • Current atherosclerosis treatments struggle to reverse advanced plaque buildup, with high amino acid levels from a Western diet causing mTORC1-autophagy defects in macrophages, worsening the condition.* -
  • Research identified that the upregulation of Gpr137b-ps in atherosclerotic plaques impacts autophagy, with experiments on mice showing that reducing Gpr137b-ps enhances macrophage autophagy and reduces plaque lesions.* -
  • Gpr137b-ps seems to inhibit the binding of HSC70 to G3BP, which in turn affects mTORC1 signaling, suggesting targeting this pathway could offer a new avenue for treating advanced atherosclerosis.*

Brain exposure of systemically administered biotherapeutics is highly restricted by the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Here, we report the engineering and characterization of a BBB transport vehicle targeting the CD98 heavy chain (CD98hc or SLC3A2) of heterodimeric amino acid transporters (TV). The pharmacokinetic and biodistribution properties of a CD98hc antibody transport vehicle (ATV) are assessed in humanized CD98hc knock-in mice and cynomolgus monkeys.

Layered Mn-based cathode (KMnO) has attracted wide attention for potassium ion batteries (PIBs) because of its high specific capacity and energy density. However, the structure and capacity of KMnO cathode are constantly degraded during the cycling due to the strong Jahn-Teller effect of Mn and huge ionic radius of K. In this work, lithium ion and interlayer water were introduced into Mn layer and K layer in order to suppress the Jahn-Teller effect and expand interlayer spacing, respectively, thus obtaining new types of KMnLiO·0.
